POSITION SUMMARY

(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

United Way Worldwide is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Development

Associate Philanthropy. The Development Associate, Philanthropy will play a critical

role in supporting United Way Worldwide's (UWW) fundraising efforts by conducting

comprehensive research on individuals and foundation donors. This role is vital in

ensuring smooth coordination of fundraising activities, donor stewardship, and major

gifts support. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, strong

attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced

fundraising environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Individual Giving and the broader Philanthropy team.
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate internal and external

communication.

  • Prepare materials for donor meetings, stewardship reports, and cultivation

events.

  • Assist in drafting correspondence, acknowledgments, and donor

communications.

  • Accurately maintain donor records, ensuring gifts, interactions, and engagement

details are properly recorded in CRM systems like Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge.

Donor Relations Support

  • Support the planning and execution of donor engagement activities, including

events, virtual gatherings, and VIP experiences.

  • Assist in developing personalized stewardship plans for major donors.
  • Conduct research to identify key donor insights that inform engagement

strategies.

  • Coordinate donor mailings, email campaigns, and engagement touchpoints.

Philanthropy Support

  • Assist in preparing presentations, impact reports, and donor recognition

materials.

  • Coordinate logistics for major gift solicitations and stewardship meetings.
  • Support pipeline management by tracking donor moves, upcoming

engagements, and follow-ups.

  • Maintain and update donor engagement plans and briefing documents for

leadership.

General Support

  • Provide logistical support for fundraising campaigns, events, and special

initiatives.

  • Manage team resources, office supplies, and other operational needs.
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 -3 years of administrative experience, preferably in a nonprofit or fundraising environment; OR High Diploma or GED equivalency and 5 years of administrative experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and accountability.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience supporting fundraising events, donor communications, or grant processes is a plus.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted salary range for this position is $68,000 to $75,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
