Summary of Work: We are seeking a Data Systems Specialist to join our organization and contribute to our mission through accurate data collection, entry, and reporting. This role is essential in supporting our data-informed approach, helping us measure impact and make informed decisions that align with our strategic goals. Reporting directly to the Data Systems Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring data quality and supporting department teams in data-related tasks and some aspects of technical support.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Data Collection and Entry: Support programs in gathering and accurately entering data from various sources into the organization’s various data collection systems. Ensure data aligns with our logic models, focusing on key indicators like "How Much," "How Well," and "Better Off."
  • Data Maintenance and Quality Control: Conduct routine checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency. Regularly update records to maintain clean and organized data for reporting purposes.
  • Logic Model-Based Reporting Support: Assist in preparing basic data summaries and reports that track program outcomes. Compile and format data to support our impact reporting in alignment with our mission and strategic priorities.
  • Database and System Support: Help configure data fields, troubleshoot basic database issues, and support staff in navigating data entry and retrieval processes.
  • Staff Support and Data Literacy: Provide guidance to program staff on proper data entry and collection practices. Answer data-related questions, ensuring data is handled accurately and in line with protocols.
  • Continuous Learning and Development: Participate in training opportunities to grow your skills in data management, nonprofit reporting, and the use of logic models for impact measurement.
  • IT Support and Issue Escalation: Serve as the first line of IT support for team members by assisting with basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network issues. Evaluate the complexity of issues and escalate to Tier 2 support when necessary, ensuring staff have timely assistance with their technology needs. Assist in setting up new employee computers and software applications.

Required Competencies: 

  • Tech/data Proficiency: Comfort with basic knowledge of Windows Operating System, software tools, writing formulas and queries, data analysis, and data visualization; additionally comfort with Microsoft 365 and Google Suite.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of how to create data-informed KPIs, measures or metrics to evaluate continuous improvement strategies
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and/or other data tools
  • Interest in learning nonprofit data management and using data to drive impact

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience
  • Familiarity with data collection systems or databases
  • 2+ years of experience with IT support
  • Relevant experience, coursework, certifications, or other continued education in data related subjects
  • Knowledge of data technology, data governance, and best practices

Compensation:

Wage: $22.00-$26.00/hour

Benefits: A competitive benefits plan includes vacation time, sick time, 12 paid holidays, and an organization-matched 403(b) plan of up to 10% after one year.

Location: Ogden, Utah (hybrid/remote work options available as approved by the direct supervisor). 

Hours: Part-time (20-28 hours/week), non-exempt, hourly; UWNU hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. UWNU strives for employees to have great work-life balance and allows for remote work assuming it does not interfere with productivity, results, and/or quality of relationships with partners. Work hours are subject to change based on UWNU and/or events and activities happening in the community.

Physical Requirements: Data specialists will work in an office sitting for extended periods using computer, keyboard, and mouse repetitively. Must be able to lift, carry, push/pull items weighing up to 20 lbs.
