POSITION SUMMARY (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

The Community Manager, Partner Initiatives manages United Way Worldwide (UWW) processes, engagement, and technical operations associated with partnership programs, including our special initiative with One Young World, the global community for young leaders. The manager develops and deploys end-to-end processes and engagement activities for large-scale, high-profile projects, such as UWW’s Call to Action for Climate Change in 2024-2025, delivered in partnership with One Young World. The Community Manager applies expertise in virtual community engagement using modern technologies and practices, and ample experience in backend operations. The successful manager excels in fast-moving environments; is exceptional in communication and collaboration; executes detailed project plans; and delivers outstanding results under pressure. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level: 

Technical Operations

  • Manages the successful implementation and operations of community-engagement and content-management platforms associated with specific partner initiatives. 
  • Establishes protocols to ensure large numbers of end users have easy, reliable access to initiative technologies, such as virtual community-engagement platforms. 
  • Liaises with platform providers to configure technologies to meet initiative requirements and troubleshoot user issues. 
  • Collaborates with UWW Information Technology and partner technical experts to ensure seamless interactions and data management across multiple platforms. 
  • Serves as tier-1 support for end-user technical assistance on community and content platforms. 

Project Management

  • Devises and maintains project plans to manage the successful operations of partner initiatives. 
  • Holds meetings and coordinates activities with UWW and partner liaisons to ensure project actions are well planned, issues are addressed, decisions are made, and project plans are continuously updated. 
  • Reports regularly on project success and escalates issues as required. 

Community Management

  • Sets up and manages the content and user experience for large-scale, high-activity engagement on virtual community technologies. 
  • Designs and manages end-to-end program activities for hundreds of users so they accomplish goals, engage actively with one another, build connections, and learn and innovate in a dynamic community environment. 
  • Engages daily with community members to build and sustain enthusiastic knowledge sharing, idea generation, and community building. 

Content Management

  • Establishes and sustains processes to organize and manage content associated with partner initiatives.
  • Sets up and maintains content-management systems to seamlessly integrate with community systems.
  • Manages the data, analysis, and reporting of project work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in setting up and managing successful virtual communities, including appropriate technical acumen. Prior experience with Mighty Networks or an equivalent platform is ideal. 
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in designing and managing complex projects.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in configuring and maintaining content-management systems and processes. Prior experience with SharePoint a plus.  
  • Exceptional skills in engaging a wide range of people across multiple dimensions of diversity. 
  • Outstanding abilities to manage multiple, concurrent priorities and adjust quickly as required. 
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset, including the ability to anticipate and address challenges. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products.

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $ 90,000 to $ 100,000 per year.  Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
