The Michigan Association of United Ways is a dynamic small team that provides multifaceted support to United Ways across Michigan. We support local United Ways that fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.

Michigan 2-1-1 is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Michigan Association of United Ways. The Classification Manager will be employed by the Michigan Association of United Ways but will report to Michigan 2-1-1.

Michigan 2-1-1’s Mission is to leverage innovation through a statewide network to connect people and resources for a stronger Michigan. This statewide network is in partnership with 7 regional 2-1-1 centers, utilizing integrated technology and dedicated staff to support connected communities, where all people thrive.

Position Title: Classification Manager

Reports To: Statewide Resource Database Director

Classification: Full-time; Salary; Exempt

Location: Lansing, MI; working primarily remote, with some in-person meetings

Summary:

The Classification Manager is responsible for maximizing the efficacy of classification of Michigan 2-1-1 resource data and database records. This is accomplished by: evaluating Michigan 2-1-1 classification systems; auditing categorization, indexing, and tagging throughout Michigan 2-1-1 applications; recommending changes to classification and related policies and systems; and providing support to Database Curators in their completion of classification work.

Duties & Functions:

  • Maintains Michigan 2-1-1's network custom taxonomy system, and implements taxonomy system changes
  • Develops and maintains the resource record tags and structure, as well as implements changes to tags as needed
  • Develop custom term search lists (i.e. category-based search) and crosswalks to external systems as needed
  • Provides quality assurance of Michigan 2-1-1's classification applications through regular review
  • Facilitates indexing-related initiatives and other work, collaborating with other Michigan 2-1-1 departments and leads classification related internal and external communication
  • In collaboration with Michigan 2-1-1 Statewide Resource Database Director and Michigan 2-1-1 Statewide Resource Project Manager, informs development of policies and standards
  • Facilitates network workgroups related to resource classification and participates in monthly Resource Managers Workgroup meetings
  • Attends occasional in-person network or industry conferences
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • The position requires knowledge normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in library science or human services related field.
  • One (1) or more years of human services or database information systems work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of service delivery systems and government agency and non-profit organizational structure.
  • The Inform USA (formerly AIRS) CRS-DC certification is preferred.

Compensation:

$60,000 - $72,000, depending upon education and experience, plus a comprehensive benefit package including employer-subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance, an employer matched 403B, and other benefits averaging an additional 30% of non-salary benefit. Additional work-life benefits include generous vacation and PTO.
