
Chief Information & Technology Officer
POSITION SUMMARY
(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office after 90 day introductory period- Alexandria, VA)
Overall responsibility for directing, planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating information systems for United Way Worldwide. Responsible for the efficient coordination of information systems strategy across the United Way Network as well as ensuring effective internal business continuity of information technology operations on a daily basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:
- Lead the strategic plans and business objectives of United Way Worldwide from technology and information infrastructure and architecture perspectives.
- Develop and implement collaborative planning processes and coordinate technology and information resources planning in conjunction with the major strategic leadership groups across United Way Worldwide.
- Identify, evaluate, and pilot emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced data analytics platforms that can enhance United Way's mission delivery, operational effectiveness, and cost efficiencies. Lead and/or partner on initiatives that leverage technologies to improve service delivery and impact measurement.
- Maintain awareness on technology trends in the nonprofit sector and translate innovations into practical applications for United Way.
- Oversee the translation of information systems and technology vision and strategy into Team strategies, tactical plans, and initiatives.
- Provide outward-facing information systems leadership in establishing common protocols, promoting uniformity of systems management and coordination and partnership across the greater United Way Network.
- Engage the United Way Network to define and implement a vision for the role of information technology that aligns with the strategic direction of the organization.
- Foster a collaborative environment in the use, coordination, and sharing of information across the United Way Network to ensure greater business and competitive leverage while positioning of United Way Worldwide as a preferred brand--both domestically and internationally.
- Evaluate and report on network-wide issues in relationship to the effective use of technology. Make recommendations for continuous system-wide improvement.
- Inspire change and organizational growth by encouraging new ideas, removing barriers, and being responsive to innovative enterprise-wide business solutions, programs, and services.
- Lead comprehensive data security and privacy programs ensuring protection of electronic information across all systems and platforms. Establish and maintain cybersecurity frameworks, incident response protocols, and compliance with relevant regulations including GDPR, CCPA, and nonprofit data protection standards. Conduct regular security assessments, manage risk mitigation strategies, and foster security awareness culture throughout the organization and network.
- Develop Team annual budgets and administer funds according to budget approval.
- Perform all functions of personnel management of Team employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or commensurate related experience.
- Servant leader with ten years leadership experience and demonstrated ability to mentor, and develop a diverse team to maintain high performance, professionalism, and technical expertise.
- Minimum ten years of expert-level experience in a similar role in a federated environment is preferred.
- Must be agile with a proven track record in managing large-scale IT infrastructure and implementing complex IT projects.
- Demonstrated strategy implementation and priority setting experience in a fast-paced environment. Possess strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to develop and execute technology strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Creative problem-solving skills with the proven ability to partner with colleagues to identify technology-driven opportunities to improve network services, streamline operations, and drive innovation.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, networking, databases, and cloud technologies. Expertise in cybersecurity practices and risk management. Excellent understanding of IT compliance standards.
- Analytical with prior experience evaluating emerging technologies that will improve operational efficiencies.
- Collaborative with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with executives, staff, and external partners.
- Discreet with exceptional judgment.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient computer skills.

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted salary range for this position is currently $290,000+ per year. The final offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and expertise. Salary is determined by several factors, including the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, position level, internal equity, and market conditions.
