Basic Job Summary
The CASA Advocate Supervisor provides professional staff support to CASA volunteers,
ensuring that children served by the CASA of SoLA program receive sound advocacy and
permanency planning. The Advocate Supervisor is responsible for the volunteer training and
supervision and coordination of cases. A full-time Advocate Supervisor may supervise up to 40
children. Duties and Responsibilities
Training
• Assist in recruiting, screening, interviewing and training new volunteers.
• Plan, organize and carry out the training for new volunteers with approval of the Executive Director.
• Plan, organize and attend volunteer in-service trainings and assist with coordination if requested.
Supervision and Support
• Review new cases and assign appropriate volunteers in consultation with the Executive Director.
• Review, approve and distribute volunteer advocate court reports.
• Attend court hearings and track court dates and report due dates in order to provide timely reminders to volunteers.
• Assist volunteers in developing initial monthly report and initial court report and ongoing strategies for advocacy.
• Assist volunteers in locating services and resources.
• Provide assistance and consultation for volunteers as needed and when requested.
• Be thoroughly familiar with issues involved in all cases assigned to volunteers under their supervision.
• Document all communication with volunteers.
• Document general case-related activities.
• Complete CASA Action Plans with all volunteers 2 months prior to each court hearing.
• Participate in volunteer evaluations as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Continually assess volunteers’ competence, and provide appropriate training and supervision according to their needs.
• Participate in all program activities as designated by the Executive Director. Community Outreach
• Facilitate inter-agency cooperation by helping volunteers locate services.
• Participate as needed in DCFS staffing, mediations, home visits, and court appearances.
• Maintain good relations with all parties with whom volunteers must interact i.e., Juvenile Judge, attorneys, DCFS, counselors, foster parents, and other service providers.
• Participate in community and professional organizations/events as deemed helpful to CASA or the children and families served.
Record Keeping
• Maintain case files and volunteer personnel files in the office.
• Maintain statistical information on cases and children served with demographics needed for grantee reports and program evaluation.
• Update documentation of volunteer hours and training documentation on each volunteer monthly.
Other
• Complete and submit time sheets bi-weekly, by the 15th and 30th of each month.
• Complete CASA training and other training opportunities or conferences to support professional growth and development.
• Participate in the annual performance evaluation conducted by the Executive Director.
• Participate in program evaluation through program satisfaction surveys sent to volunteers and other agencies, and other means as directed.
• Attend staff meetings and assist in the evaluation of the program.
• Participate in quarterly staffing with the Executive Director to discuss the case family’s progress.
• Work as a team to develop the program's annual goals, including a volunteer recruitment and retention plan.
• Provide office coverage as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in social services, child and family studies, sociology, communications, or related field preferred.
Experiences
• 2 to 4 years of experience in nonprofit operations, case management support, or program
coordination
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems (Optima preferred)
• Ability to work with diverse personalities including volunteers, court personnel, and
community partners
• Understanding of child welfare, foster care, and CASA mission preferred
Requirements Before Hire
• A Bachelor’s Degree program in a related field of study.
• Proof and maintenance of a valid driver’s license
• Proof and maintenance of Vehicle Insurance and reliable transportation
• Produce a current physical.
