The mission of the United Way of Greater McHenry County is to mobilize the caring power of community so that all can thrive. Our key areas of focus are youth opportunity, health, community resilience, senior care, and financial well-being.&nbsp;The Director of Development plays a key role in our mission and vision by raising funds that enable us to maximize our reach and impact in McHenry County through our own programs and through grants we award to our non-profit partners.The core responsibility of the role is to maximize donation generation and retention by developing and maintaining relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, and others. The Director of Development is responsible for diversifying our donor base by recruiting new funding sources and growing and retaining existing funding sources. This will include a combination of employee giving campaigns, individual appeals, marketing, collaborations, corporate sponsorships, grants, philanthropic partnerships, community involvement, and fundraising events.This position requires an entrepreneurial professional who will thrive in an outcome-driven, dynamic, and flexible environment. This position requires experience in fundraising, as well as building and nurturing relationships. The Director of Development must be a sophisticated communicator who can confidently interact with stakeholders and individuals in various positions, from foundation board members to corporate CEOs to small business owners and individuals interested in planned giving or legacy gift donations.&nbsp;&nbsp;The ideal candidate will be an upbeat, reliable, and skilled team player who is willing and able to pitch in however needed to assist in daily operations, represent our brand, and maximize our success. The individual will need to be a compelling partner to our donors and able to tell our story and inspire action in one-on-one, large group presentation, written, and social media settings. Timely follow through and integrity are paramount, as are strong written and verbal communication skills. Classification:&nbsp; Full time, Exempt
Summary:&nbsp; To actively oversee and lead all Resource Development activity of the organization including annual fundraising campaign, major and planned gifts, and special event fundraisers.&nbsp; Cultivate corporate and individual relationships, organizes, and maximizes workplace campaigns to increase participation and giving. Increase all resources to achieve the organization’s mission to “unite people, ideas and resources to improve lives in Greater Plymouth County”.

Essential Functions:
Annual United Way Campaign
Plan and conduct successful annual United Way campaign, including 100+ workplace campaigns
• Design and implement a written annual strategic campaign plan, including a well thought out and organized campaign structure with clearly defined roles for volunteers and a set schedule of planning meetings to set goals and monitor progress of the campaign.
• Maintain weekly campaign schedule of company solicitations by regular contact with companies and conduct and/or assign staff, loaned executives and other volunteers to conduct solicitations.
• Manage and conduct the daily/weekly activities of the campaign (including, but not limited to, campaign presentations, campaign trainings).
• Prepare, maintain, and update all campaign records, reports, materials, and data in data base.
• Analyze and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of past workplace campaigns and develop new strategies; set goals, timetables, and schedules for all areas of the campaign; maintain an awareness of economic factors in the community impacting workplace campaigns.
• Organize and conduct annual fundraising events, including, but not limited to, campaign kick off, special leadership functions, campaign celebration and annual meeting.
• Develop new prospects, techniques, strategies, and promotions for annual workplace campaigns and related activities.&nbsp;
Leadership Giving, Planned Giving &amp; Major Gifts
Develop and implement successful programs to generate resources from leadership givers, individual philanthropists, and estate planning.
Donor Recognition
Organize and review routine donor acknowledgement and conduct specialized recognition programs for donors and volunteers.
Reporting and Record Keeping
Responsible for keeping accurate and organized records of all fundraising activities, annual reports for United Way Worldwide, including Database 2, annual budgeting, and annual audit reports.
Effective Supervision
Responsible for directing, supporting, and evaluating all resource development staff and volunteers.
Assist in the day-to-day operations as needed.
Job Relationships:
Maintain frequent contact with all other United Way staff, as well as with local businesses that run campaigns, prospective campaign businesses, volunteers, agencies, organizations, and the public, to provide information and guidance for conducting the campaign.&nbsp;&nbsp;
	Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of successful fundraising experience are required.
• Necessary job skills and attributes include full range of professional sales skills from prospecting to closing.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, advanced interpersonal / relational skills, presentation skills, and computer skills including database management, and fundraising reports.
• Experience with Andar donor base software preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
• United Way experience preferred.
• Position also requires extensive local (Plymouth County) travel and occasional evening and weekend appointments.
