The Volunteer Engagement Manager plays a critical role in this mission by developing, coordinating, and expanding meaningful volunteer opportunities that connect individuals, companies, and groups to United Way’s community impact work. This role works collaboratively across departments and partners closely within the department to ensure seamless planning and execution of high-impact volunteer experiences and organizational events.&nbsp;Areas of ResponsibilityVolunteer Program Strategy &amp; Management<ul><li>Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer engagement strategy aligned with United Way’s mission, priorities, and annual goals.</li><li>Create and manage signature volunteer initiatives, including large-scale days of service such as Hands on Greenville Day and Grateful GVL, affinity-group volunteer projects, and hands-on impact experiences such as School Tools and Project Joy.</li><li>Identify new opportunities for volunteer engagement that meet community needs and support United Way’s programmatic and fundraising goals.</li></ul>Cross-Department Collaboration<ul><li>Work closely internally to support event logistics, resource planning, and volunteer integration into major United Way events.</li><li>Collaborate with Corporate Engagement, Philanthropy, Marketing &amp; Communications, and Community Impact teams to create cohesive engagement experiences.</li><li>Ensure volunteer activities support and elevate United Way’s fundraising, marketing, and impact goals.</li></ul>Corporate &amp; Community Partnerships<ul><li>Serve as the primary point of contact for corporate volunteerism, designing custom volunteer experiences for workplace partners.</li><li>Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit partners to assess volunteer needs and match them with corporate and community groups.</li><li>Support Corporate Engagement staff by integrating volunteerism into workplace campaigns and year-round engagement strategies.</li></ul>Project Execution &amp; Event Management<ul><li>Lead planning, logistics, and on-site coordination for volunteer events, ensuring high-quality execution, safety, and alignment with impact objectives.</li><li>Coordinate venue needs; timelines, supply management, and volunteer roles related to organizational events.</li><li>Provide meaningful orientation and storytelling to volunteers to reinforce United Way’s mission and deepen understanding of community needs.</li></ul>Volunteer Recruitment, Training &amp; Stewardship<ul><li>Recruit, onboard, and steward a diverse pool of volunteers, including individuals, families, corporate teams, and affinity groups.</li><li>Create and deliver volunteer training materials, toolkits, and post-event follow-up.</li><li>Manage volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts to strengthen long-term engagement.</li></ul>Data, Evaluation &amp; Communication<ul><li>Track participation, outcomes, and partner engagement using United Way’s CRM and volunteer management systems.</li><li>Report regularly on metrics, impact stories, and trends to support fundraising, marketing, and strategic planning.</li><li>Partner with Marketing &amp; Communications to highlight volunteer activities and promote opportunities through digital channels.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li>3+ years of experience in volunteer management, event coordination, nonprofit program management, or related fields.</li><li>Strong relationship-building and customer-service skills; comfortable working with corporate leaders, volunteers, and community partners.</li><li>Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously.</li><li>Strong communication and presentation abilities.</li><li>Experience with volunteer management software and CRM systems preferred.</li><li>Ability to work occasionally nights and weekends for special events.</li><li>Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.</li><li>Listen to understand and speak to be understood.&nbsp;</li><li>Obsess over the details, but don’t be a perfectionist.&nbsp;</li><li>Strive for best-in-class.&nbsp;</li><li>Challenge assumptions without being rude or disrespectful. Classification:&nbsp; Full time, Exempt
Summary:&nbsp; To actively oversee and lead all Resource Development activity of the organization including annual fundraising campaign, major and planned gifts, and special event fundraisers.&nbsp; Cultivate corporate and individual relationships, organizes, and maximizes workplace campaigns to increase participation and giving. Increase all resources to achieve the organization’s mission to “unite people, ideas and resources to improve lives in Greater Plymouth County”.

Essential Functions:
Annual United Way Campaign
Plan and conduct successful annual United Way campaign, including 100+ workplace campaigns
• Design and implement a written annual strategic campaign plan, including a well thought out and organized campaign structure with clearly defined roles for volunteers and a set schedule of planning meetings to set goals and monitor progress of the campaign.
• Maintain weekly campaign schedule of company solicitations by regular contact with companies and conduct and/or assign staff, loaned executives and other volunteers to conduct solicitations.
• Manage and conduct the daily/weekly activities of the campaign (including, but not limited to, campaign presentations, campaign trainings).
• Prepare, maintain, and update all campaign records, reports, materials, and data in data base.
• Analyze and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of past workplace campaigns and develop new strategies; set goals, timetables, and schedules for all areas of the campaign; maintain an awareness of economic factors in the community impacting workplace campaigns.
• Organize and conduct annual fundraising events, including, but not limited to, campaign kick off, special leadership functions, campaign celebration and annual meeting.
• Develop new prospects, techniques, strategies, and promotions for annual workplace campaigns and related activities.&nbsp;
Leadership Giving, Planned Giving &amp; Major Gifts
Develop and implement successful programs to generate resources from leadership givers, individual philanthropists, and estate planning.
Donor Recognition
Organize and review routine donor acknowledgement and conduct specialized recognition programs for donors and volunteers.
Reporting and Record Keeping
Responsible for keeping accurate and organized records of all fundraising activities, annual reports for United Way Worldwide, including Database 2, annual budgeting, and annual audit reports.
Effective Supervision
Responsible for directing, supporting, and evaluating all resource development staff and volunteers.
Assist in the day-to-day operations as needed.
Job Relationships:
Maintain frequent contact with all other United Way staff, as well as with local businesses that run campaigns, prospective campaign businesses, volunteers, agencies, organizations, and the public, to provide information and guidance for conducting the campaign.&nbsp;&nbsp;
	Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of successful fundraising experience are required.
• Necessary job skills and attributes include full range of professional sales skills from prospecting to closing.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, advanced interpersonal / relational skills, presentation skills, and computer skills including database management, and fundraising reports.
• Experience with Andar donor base software preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
• United Way experience preferred.
• Position also requires extensive local (Plymouth County) travel and occasional evening and weekend appointments.
