Summary: The President/CEO is responsible for United Way of St. Joseph County’s 
(UWSJC) mission and has the authority, within the framework of the UWSJC’s plans,

CEO will manage the entire operation of UWSJC within the guidelines of the annual 
budget as adopted by the Board of Directors with emphasis on maintaining a balanced

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic 

 • Provide vision and strategic insight to the Board for fulfilling the mission of the 
organization, utilizing input from multiple sources, including external and internal 
constituents.

 • Develop an annual business plan to report on progress in achieving goals.

Governance 

 • Provide direct staff support to the Board Governance and Nominating committee 
and report regularly to the Board on the activities of the organization and 
progress toward meeting annual plan goals and strategic objectives. 

 • Ensure Board members are kept informed of matters and developments that 
warrant their attention and best practices on organizational management and 
leadership. 

 • Identify issues and policies that require the action of the Board. 
 • Develop board meetings that allow the members to fulfill their operational 

responsibilities, but also to provide the opportunity for strategic discussion on 
organizational imperatives. 

Administrative and Management 

 • Establish a culture which ensures that the organization attracts and retains the 
talent necessary to successfully carry out its programs and mission. 


 • Manage staff assuring that adequate training, support, and resources are in 
place to achieve goals with a focus on a coaching culture. 

 • Ensure that the organization operates within the financial parameters set by the 
Board, and that available resources are distributed appropriately. 

 • Provide the fiscal oversight for the organization’s investments, budgets, and 
financial reporting. 

 • Ensures that UWSJC meets legal obligations and complies with membership

Neighborhood Center Initiative (NCI) Leadership 

 • Convene and lead collective impact work around the Neighborhood Centers 
owned by UWSJC. 

 • Proactively manage capital investment in and expenses of the Neighborhood 
Center Initiative (NCI) to ensure construction budgets and timelines are met. 

 • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress and meet 
deadlines related to the construction process. 

 • Communicate with UWSJC leadership and key Neighborhood Center partners to 
keep the project aligned with goals and priorities of the NCI. 

 • Ensure operational efficiency which includes reviewing budgets and financial 
projections and adjusting as needed at each unique Neighborhood Center 
location. 

 • Develop and implement strategies, procedures and business plans needed to 
enhance continued growth of the NCI.

<h2>POSITION OVERVIEW:</h2>The United Way of Massachusetts Bay (UWMB) seeks a proven, effective fundraising leader who will champion our organization's work building stronger, more equitable communities across the region. Reporting to and partnering with the CEO, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead a robust effort to increase and diversify revenue and raise $50 million annually to meet the organization's operational goals and community investments.
