Summary: The President/CEO is responsible for United Way of St. Joseph County’s 
(UWSJC) mission and has the authority, within the framework of the UWSJC’s plans, 
policies, and Bylaws, to take necessary action to perform the job responsibilities. The 
CEO will manage the entire operation of UWSJC within the guidelines of the annual 
budget as adopted by the Board of Directors with emphasis on maintaining a balanced 
operation. The President has special responsibility for guarding against waste of 
resources provided by contributors and plays a key role in resource generation for the 
organization. 

 
Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic 

 • Provide vision and strategic insight to the Board for fulfilling the mission of the 
organization, utilizing input from multiple sources, including external and internal 
constituents. 

 • Ensure that the Board has access to all information needed to carry out its 
governance responsibilities. 

 • Develop an annual business plan to report on progress in achieving goals. 
 • Identify new opportunities to build partnerships with a broad and diverse group 

of external constituents and leverage resources in an effort to maximize impact. 
 • Partner with external organizations to encourage the exchange of information 

and the building of collaborations. 
 • Participate in external meetings, councils, forums, etc. to ensure UWSJC has 

the most current and relevant information to use in decision-making.

 Development

 • Cultivate relationships with members of the Board and obtain individual 
contributions.

Governance 

 • Provide direct staff support to the Board Governance and Nominating committee 
and report regularly to the Board on the activities of the organization and 
progress toward meeting annual plan goals and strategic objectives. 

 • Ensure Board members are kept informed of matters and developments that 
warrant their attention and best practices on organizational management and 
leadership. 

 • Identify issues and policies that require the action of the Board. 
 • Develop board meetings that allow the members to fulfill their operational 

responsibilities, but also to provide the opportunity for strategic discussion on 
organizational imperatives. 

Administrative and Management 

 • Establish a culture which ensures that the organization attracts and retains the 
talent necessary to successfully carry out its programs and mission. 


 • Manage staff assuring that adequate training, support, and resources are in 
place to achieve goals with a focus on a coaching culture. 

 • Ensure that the organization operates within the financial parameters set by the 
Board, and that available resources are distributed appropriately. 

 • Provide the fiscal oversight for the organization’s investments, budgets, and 
financial reporting. 

 • Ensures that UWSJC meets legal obligations and complies with membership 
requirements of United Way Worldwide. 

 
Neighborhood Center Initiative (NCI) Leadership 

 • Convene and lead collective impact work around the Neighborhood Centers 
owned by UWSJC. 

 • Proactively manage capital investment in and expenses of the Neighborhood 
Center Initiative (NCI) to ensure construction budgets and timelines are met. 

 • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress and meet 
deadlines related to the construction process. 

 • Communicate with UWSJC leadership and key Neighborhood Center partners to 
keep the project aligned with goals and priorities of the NCI. 

 • Ensure operational efficiency which includes reviewing budgets and financial 
projections and adjusting as needed at each unique Neighborhood Center 
location. 

 • Develop and implement strategies, procedures and business plans needed to 
enhance continued growth of the NCI.

The Manager of Prospect Research is responsible for the management and implementation of prospect identification, pipeline development, prospect research, industry analysis, and relationship management. <li>Identify, qualify, rate, and assign individual prospects in support of fundraising goals and objectives. Advise and provide guided recommendations for grant and corporate prospects.</li>
<li>Provide prospect research to fundraisers who primarily work with leadership level ($1,000+) and major level ($5,000+) prospects.</li>
<li>Utilize research tools to analyze individual wealth indicators, including salary, stock, real estate, and other assets, to determine overall financial capacity, wealth ratings and solicitation potential.</li>
<li>Prepare and regularly maintain thorough, accurate and timely profiles on individuals, corporations and foundations as needed to support fundraising initiatives. Manage biographical records, utilizing methods such as daily news screenings, reviewing push technology/alerts, and donors lists to identify new individual, corporate and foundation prospects and monitor current prospects.</li>

<ul><li>Provide strategic consultative partnership to Chief Strategic Intelligence &amp; Information Officer and Chief Fundraising &amp; Engagement Officer that includes prospect strategies, analysis and reporting related to major and transformational donors.</li>

Education and/or Experience &nbsp;
