Job Title: Manager, Public Affairs Reporting To: Chief Strategy Officer 

Department: Strategy Position: Full-time/Exempt 

 
 
Purpose of Position 
The Manager, Public Affairs will work with federal, state, and local elected officials and their offices to 
generate awareness and support for the policy agenda of Orange County United Way (OCUW). The 
incumbent is responsible for working with OCUW staff, consultants, volunteers, coalitions, and partner 
organizations to build support for OCUW policy priorities and to integrate advocacy messaging into 
relevant OCUW programs and events. 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities 
 • Strategically coordinate efforts to maintain good governmental relations and further the public policy 

priorities of OCUW. 
 • Provide regular advocacy briefings for senior OCUW staff and volunteer leadership. 
 • Schedule/coordinate meetings with elected leaders, their staff, and other government officials to gain 

support for OCUW’s advocacy priorities. 
 • Create briefing materials for OCUW leadership to prepare for meetings and conduct appropriate 

follow-up actions. 
 • Maintain a current contact list of elected officials and their staff across Orange County. 
 • Monitor federal, state, and local legislative issues of concern to OCUW and maintain current 

knowledge of government funding opportunities, political trends, and legislation. 
 • Track and monitor interactions, prepare required reports, and maintain records of involvement with 

elected officials, cities, county departments, and more, and update CRM database accordingly. 
 • Work with OCUW’s initiatives/programmatic teams to coordinate and provide guidance on targeted 

advocacy efforts. 
 • Provide policy research, development of support materials, recruitment of spokespersons, and other 

activities as needed to advance OCUW’s policy agenda. 
 • Participate in coalition-building efforts and collaborative partnerships to leverage opportunities that 

advance OCUW’s policy priorities. 
 • Provide staff support to the volunteer OCUW advocacy committee; collaborate with the advocacy 

committee to develop policy priorities and track progress/activities related to priorities. 
 • Represent OCUW with United Ways of California and United Way Worldwide advocacy coalitions; 

support 211CA efforts in conjunction with 211OC leadership. 
 • Support volunteer recruitment, retention, and mobilization efforts. 
 • Coordinate and provide support materials for state/federal advocacy days and/or local in-district 

meetings. 
 • Collaborate with communications/marketing staff on media related to advocacy efforts. 
 • Provides advocacy presentations and training opportunities to volunteers and staff. 
 • Attend and participate in relevant OCUW meetings throughout the year, including staff training, state-

level meetings with staff partners, and board meetings as required.

Job Title: Associate Director, Major Gifts Reporting To: Chief Philanthropy Officer 

Department: Philanthropy Position: Full-Time/Exempt 

 
PURPOSE OF POSITION 

The Associate Director, Major Gifts will be expected to build and manage a portfolio of $10,000 - 
$100,000 Orange County United Way donors and advance prospects with the potential to make six-figure 
gifts to support our work. 
 
Responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift donors and prospects, as 
well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our 
organization’s mission is key. This position is expected to energize volunteers and donors, and persuade 
prospects to engage with our giving programs. The Associate Director will bring an accomplished track 
record of establishing and growing major giving programs. This position reports to the Chief Philanthropy 
Officer. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 • Secure major gifts at the $10,000 to $100,000 level with the goal of raising $1.5 to $2 million 
annually within two years. 

 • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects that meet and exceed all 
activity metrics and revenue goals. 

 • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with 
our organization. 

 • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other volunteers and staff with 
their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with 
donor communications). 

 • Serve as the staff lead for select donor affinity groups, to be determined. 
 • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor 

database and wealth screening tools. 
 • Manage a portfolio of 100 - 125 donors and prospects. 
 • Work with the supervisor annually to establish strategies and set goals. 
 • Meet weekly expectations for entry into donor database, completion of donor contact reports, 

donor meeting preparation, and ensuring that moves management plans are updated regularly. 
 • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.

The Manager, DevOps will report to the Vice President, DevOps and oversee the application AssistOC, 
which supports fund disbursements to community members to ensure housing prevention. This role 
involves working closely with technical developers and stakeholders to gather requirements, manage 
project timelines, and ensure the successful implementation of enhancements and new programs into 
the application. The Manager, DevOps will act as a problem solver and technical project manager, 
ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the AssistOC application.

 • Collaborate with technical developers and stakeholders to gather and define requirements.

Purpose of Position 
The Desktop Support Specialist will support the end-user computer needs for functionality, systems 
updates and hardware deployments. The role provides support to Orange County United Way teams by 
providing user assistance and training on both systems and applications used by the organization. 
End-user and system support is provided for both onsite and remote employees, the need to 
troubleshoot and fix problems will occur regularly using remote connectivity tools. 
The position will also be responsible for hardware and software deployments, inventory controls, user 
training on systems and applications. 
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 
 • Provide desktop systems and user support to ensure required computer capabilities are 

available to all users 

 • Develop and provide systems and software training to the end-users 

 • Manage trouble tickets and ensure customer satisfaction 

 • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related 
hardware and software for local and remote users 

 • Develop and maintain an inventory of all IT desktops, components and equipment

 • Facilitate and teach financial literacy workshops in English and Spanish

Financial Education Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITIONTo provide administrative support and coordination for 211OC and United for Financial Security (U4FS) teams.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES<ul><li>Attend council and committee meetings, prepare agendas, meeting packets, presentations, confirm/record attendance and take minutes for U4FS and 211OC leadership councils/committees; finalize minutes/notes in a timely manner; track/follow up on action items.</li><li>Maintain rosters for 211OC and U4FS Leadership Councils.</li><li>Manage 211OC City Roadshow calendar including communication and scheduling with elected officials and other city leaders.</li><li>Maintain calendar for 211OC Executive Director, including booking travel for conferences as needed.</li><li>Learn and understand the programs that comprise the work of OCUW.</li><li>Schedule internal and external meetings (in person, Zoom or by telephone).</li><li>Draft, type and finalize correspondence and other documents.</li><li>Carry out administrative duties such as filing, copying, binding, scanning, etc.</li><li>Coordinate and prepare mailings/merge letters as needed.</li><li>Update and track information in ANDAR database.</li><li>Maintain Outlook contacts and contact groups.</li><li>Participate in monthly Foundation Team (administrative staff) meetings and report as liaison to 211OC and U4FS teams.</li><li>Maintain files (including document retention) and order supplies as needed.</li><li>Reserve meeting rooms and conference bridges for meetings; prepare and set up Board and Meeting rooms for meetings, including projector and video conferencing units; order lunch or catering as needed.</li><li>Add events to the organizational calendar.</li><li>Assist and provide coordination of facilities/catering for special functions and projects as required.&nbsp;</li><li>Participate as a team member in assigned project activities, and perform other tasks as assigned related to the organization as a whole.&nbsp;</li><li>Provide back-up front desk coverage as needed.</li><li>Provide other administrative support and additional tasks as requested.</li><li>Support occasional events/meetings that may occur outside of core business hours.</li><li>Punctuality and reliability are top priorities.</li></ul>Education and Training Required for this Position<ul><li>Three - five years of experience in an administrative assistant/coordinator position and/or other relevant work experience.&nbsp;</li></ul>Technical Knowledge<ul><li>Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams)&nbsp;</li><li>Zoom</li><li>Proven record of excellent writing and communication skills</li><li>Ability to work on multiple projects with different deadlines/objectives simultaneously</li><li>Organizational management – project management skills</li><li>ANDAR experience a plus</li><li>Experience in a business office, knowledge of business procedures and practices&nbsp;</li></ul>CORE COMPETENCIES &nbsp;Problem Solving and Decision Making<ul><li>Ability to work independently, making appropriate decisions with direction as needed&nbsp;</li><li>Flexibility and ability to manage issues and crisis calmly and effectively</li><li>Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills, anticipate potential needs and proactively address challenges before they arise.</li></ul>Communicating and Influencing<ul><li>Ability to demonstrate diplomacy in interactions externally and internally</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing&nbsp;</li><li>Effective writing skills</li><li>Ability to represent Orange County United Way in a professional manner at all times</li></ul>Business Knowledge/Savvy<ul><li>Experience in and a commitment to providing results&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to analyze and track results</li><li>Ability to work with a diverse group of people</li></ul>Partnering and Teamwork<ul><li>Ability to work cross-functionally with all departments to achieve position objectives&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines</li></ul>Personal Excellence<ul><li>Ability to manage many projects at one time, prioritizing and planning for high efficiency</li><li>Self-motivated, personal accountability and integrity</li><li>Organized and detail oriented</li><li>Driven for results</li><li>Ability to work independently and proactively</li></ul>COMPENSATIONCommensurate with experience, education and market - $25 - $32 per hour; competitive benefits. &nbsp;<a href="https://www.unitedwayoc.org/about-us/commitment-to-diversity-equity-inclusion/" target="_blank">View our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement</a>PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
