POSITION: Parents as Teachers Parent Educator 
 
REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood Initiatives 
 
PURPOSE: The Parent Educator plays a vital role in advancing United Way of 

El Paso County’s mission, vision, and Education Community Impact 
goals by delivering effective family home visitation programs. This 
position is responsible for implementing the Parents as Teachers 
evidence-based early childhood home visitation framework—
supporting strong communities, thriving families, and children who 
are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. 

 
MAJOR DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES 
The role of the Parent Educator is to will deliver the evidence-based Parents as 
Teachers (PAT) curriculum to families through regular in-home visits. The Parent 
Educator will support parents in fostering their child’s development, conduct 
assessments, connect families with resources, and build strong relationships within the 
community. 
 
Responsibilities: 

ï· Conduct 30–40 home visits per month to families with young children; 

ï· Use the PAT curriculum to promote child development, school readiness, and 
parenting support; 

ï· Facilitate family group sessions and community-based events; 

ï· Conduct developmental screenings and family assessments; 

ï· Maintain accurate and timely records in Visit Tracker (PAT) database; 

ï· Recruit new families through outreach and community presentations; 

ï· Participate in ongoing professional development (minimum 20 hours/year); 

ï· Collaborate with community partners and other United Way programs. 
 

Administrative Compliance for Parents as Teachers: 

ï· Enter and maintain up-to-date client data in electronic system: Visit Tracker 
(PAT) ; 

ï· Keep accurate and complete family case files in compliance with program and 
grant requirements;

ï· Submit daily timesheets, weekly/monthly staff reports, and mileage/expense 
reports by established deadlines; 

ï· Participate in monthly supervision sessions (both reflective and 
administrative); 

ï· Recruit new families to maintain a full caseload through community outreach 
and presentations; 

ï· Solicit donations and secure incentives to support and engage participating 
families. 

 
Professional Development: 

ï· Complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional development annually to 
maintain certification through the Parents as Teachers national office. 

ï· Attend all required trainings, including: 
o PAT Foundational &amp; Model Implementation 
o Core Curriculum 
o Technology System 
o Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) 
o Life Skills Progression (LSP) 
o Parenting Interaction and Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to 

Outcomes (PICCOLO) 
o Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) 
o Cultural Competency 
o Trauma Informed Care 
o Health Screening Procedures 
o Other training as recommended to support growth and capacity 

building. 
 
Relationships: 
The primary relationship of the Parent Educator is with the families enrolled in the 
Parents as Teachers program. In addition, the role involves building and maintaining 
strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders, 
including: 

ï· Host sites and educational institutions; 
ï· Community groups and neighborhood associations; 
ï· Non-profit and government agencies; 
ï· Faith-based organizations and foundations; 

Internally, the Parent Educator will work closely with staff across departments to ensure 
program alignment and mission-driven collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS | KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
Required: 

ï· Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood 
education, parent education, social work, and/or in health or human services. 

ï· Fluency in both English and Spanish

ï· Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and daily access to a reliable 
vehicle. 

ï· Ability to pass a background check. 
ï· Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings, 

evenings, and weekends.

JOB CLASSIFICATION: 
 
Position: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Salary: $36,790 annually 
Benefits: Competitive benefits package including Health, Dental, Life Insurance, and 
Retirement contributions. 
An 18-month commitment is required for this position.
