Senior Finance Manager

Director of Major Gifts 

ï· Manage and grow UWFC’s Tocqueville Society. (60%) 

o Recruit and activate volunteers to drive a major gifts strategy as part of the 

individual giving program. 

o Prepare executive leadership and volunteers for interactions with current and 

prospective major donors including briefings, meeting agendas and any required 

materials. 

ï· Primarily focus on individuals giving outside of workplace campaigns, but collaborate with 

Development colleagues to strategically engage, solicit, and steward individuals inside the

ï· Willing to travel throughout our service area to build donor relationships and solicit and 

close major gifts ($10,000+), completing at least 50 face-to-face and virtual visits per fiscal

donor strategy plans and stewardship processes that support a culture of

The Director of Major Gifts is a leader responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, 

solicitation, and stewardship of United Way Forsyth County’s (UWFC) Individual Giving Program. 

Responsible for a portfolio of major donors $10,000+ and planned gifts. The 

Director of Major Gifts will be donor-centered, data-driven, innovative, and results oriented to meet 

fundraising goals and targets that lead to sustainable growth. The Director of Major Gifts should 
have at least 15 years of fundraising experience.

The Major Gift Officer coordinates the involvement of advancement leadership and staff, program staff, and volunteers in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors.Responsibilities:<ul><li>Strategically Cultivate: Portfolio of 100-125 major donor prospects, meeting annual goals for appointments, solicitations, and revenue generation.</li><li>Effectively Utilize: United Way's CRM and wealth screening tools to strategically track and engage donors and prospects.</li><li>Actively Develop: New prospective donor pipelines through effective networking, qualification, and Regional Development Committee volunteer partnerships.</li><li>Thoughtfully Create: Awareness about United Way's place-based work with current and prospective donors.</li><li>Collaboratively Design and Implement: Meaningful experiences for Tocqueville Society members and leverage existing events for donor engagement.</li><li>Appropriately Recognize: Major donors through public and private acknowledgment strategies.</li><li>Consistently Foster: Collaborative relationships with team members through active participation in organizational meetings.</li><li>Diligently Adhere: To the Association of Fundraising professionals Code of Ethics</li></ul>What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, business, finance, or impact-related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.</li><li>Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, management, finance, or human services, or similar experience. Major Gift Officer experience preferred.</li><li>A strong command of fundraising principles and a familiarity with the objectives of annual and unrestricted-gift fundraising</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</li><li>Strong project management skills, with the ability to effectively plan, execute, and oversee multiple initiatives.</li><li>Ability to present information and ideas clearly and persuasively to executive teams, volunteers, and the board of directors.</li><li>Demonstrated success in collaborative work environments, group facilitation, and engaging leadership volunteers.</li><li>Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills.</li><li>Adaptability to change, with the ability to work independently and apply strong problem-solving skills.</li><li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills</li></ul>United Way of Greater Charlotte is committed to having a workforce that reflects our entire community.
