Job Title: Associate Director, Major Gifts Reporting To: Chief Philanthropy Officer 

Department: Philanthropy Position: Full-Time/Exempt 

 
PURPOSE OF POSITION 

The Associate Director, Major Gifts will be expected to build and manage a portfolio of $10,000 - 
$100,000 Orange County United Way donors and advance prospects with the potential to make six-figure 
gifts to support our work. 
 
Responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift donors and prospects, as 
well as identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our 
organization’s mission is key. This position is expected to energize volunteers and donors, and persuade 
prospects to engage with our giving programs. The Associate Director will bring an accomplished track 
record of establishing and growing major giving programs. This position reports to the Chief Philanthropy 
Officer. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 • Secure major gifts at the $10,000 to $100,000 level with the goal of raising $1.5 to $2 million 
annually within two years. 

 • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects that meet and exceed all 
activity metrics and revenue goals. 

 • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with 
our organization. 

 • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other volunteers and staff with 
their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with 
donor communications). 

 • Serve as the staff lead for select donor affinity groups, to be determined. 
 • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor 

database and wealth screening tools. 
 • Manage a portfolio of 100 - 125 donors and prospects. 
 • Work with the supervisor annually to establish strategies and set goals. 
 • Meet weekly expectations for entry into donor database, completion of donor contact reports, 

donor meeting preparation, and ensuring that moves management plans are updated regularly. 
 • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition. 
 • Utilize and lead Associate executives, board members, and volunteers as natural partners in 

cultivating and soliciting gifts. 
 • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with the philanthropy, 

development, and community engagement teams. 
 • Build a broad base of support for long-term sustainable revenues. 
 • Attend and assist with donor and organization events as needed.

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

 • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college preferred. 
 • A minimum of three - five years of relevant fundraising experience in managing high-level donor

The Helpline Associate will join an existing team of five staff.  • Travel to meet with clients at their home, community partner offices, satellite offices, etc.; if

Key Accountabilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 
Administrative &amp; Financial: 

 • Support reporting requirements for funders to ensure timely and accurate reporting and budget 
monitoring 

 • Proficient with navigating excel and Apricot 360, UWSHR’s CI programming database system, to 
monitor direct report’s caseloads, capacity, and documentation. 

 • Responsible for the review and approval of financial assistance requests submitted by direct reports as 
related to workforce and wraparound supports. 

 
 
Outreach and Advocacy: 

 • Responsible for establishing trusting relationships with participants and their families while providing 
general support and encouragement. 

 • Provide ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing, and goal setting with participant/families. 

 • Follow up with participants via phone calls, home visits and visits to other settings where 

 • participants can be found. 

 • Help participants set personal health related goals and attend appointments. 

 • Provide referrals for services to community agencies as appropriate. 

 • Help participants connect with transportation resources and provide appointment reminders in special 
circumstances. Transport participants based on UWSHR transportation policy. 

 
Community Collaboration: 

 • Effectively communicate UWSHR’s mission and vision. 

 • Work closely with NRHA staff and internal team to build trusting relationships with residents. 

 • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with community service providers to support participants with 
comprehensive and coordinated plans to achieve success.

Data &amp; Reporting 

 • Assist with the collection of client’s social, financial, and housing wellbeing status while enrolled to 

support reporting requirements to funders and measuring client’s progress.

 • In collaboration with the UWSHR data team, provide oversight to Apricot 360 which collects, 

manages, and reports data specific to programming. Additionally, identifies core measurable 

outcomes related to financial stability to build on United Way’s data impact. 

 • Support the aggregation and analyzation of outcomes and metrics to assess the performance of 

programs to gauge their effectiveness in uplifting the community. Utilize the support of data to help 

drive programmatic shifts when needed. 

 • Responsible for providing consistent communication to any additional Navigators to evaluate 
participant/family status, ensuring that provided information, and reports clearly describe progress. 
 


Program &amp; Implementation 

 • Support Navigators to maintain and manage caseload of participants. 

 • Maintain confidentiality and always remain current with HIPAA compliance. 

 • Utilize all tools and resources available to manage caseload, including but not limited to Unite Us and 
211. 

 • Be available based on the needs of participants with the ability to be flexible with scheduling, 
including traditional and non-traditional work hours; evening and weekends may be required to meet 
the needs of participants and families. 

 • Continuously monitors and evaluates progress based on goals. 
 

 
Marketing, Resource Development, &amp; Outreach

General Description: This position supports Family Stability Program case manager(s) in connecting with new participants. This position will provide overdose prevention education, naloxone distribution and education on naloxone use to Broward community residents.Primary Job Responsibilities and Duties:&nbsp;<ul><li>Develops and distributes educational materials that include information on overdose prevention, the use of naloxone and safe injection practices.&nbsp;</li><li>Distributes educational materials to Broward County residents at six outreach events and 24 sites in zip codes targeting one (or more) of the priority population(s).&nbsp;</li><li>Provides training on naloxone use and distribute naloxone to&nbsp;Broward County residents.&nbsp;</li><li>Works within the Commission’s Comprehensive Community Action Plan, implementing Information Dissemination, Educational Trainings, Alternative Strategies, Environmental Strategies and Community-Based Process.&nbsp;</li><li>Establishes both formal and informal alliances with organizations which have similar or allied goals, such as the School Board, local law enforcement, health care providers, community centers, and service providers.&nbsp;</li></ul>.Other Job Duties:&nbsp;<ul><li>Documents the number of naloxone doses and number of educational materials distributed at each event and each distribution site and give each corresponding invoice to the grant funder.&nbsp;</li><li>Distributes educational materials to individuals at a minimum of 24 sites located in the following zip codes 33064, 33060, 33311, 33316, 33020, 33063, 33069, 33309, 33308, 33313, 33312, 33021, each quarter throughout the contract term.</li><li>Responsible for tracking performance measures for deliverables in accordance with grant.&nbsp;</li><li>Meet with and enlist key local stakeholders, coalitions, and service providers to promote the goals of the United Way Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention</li><li>Organizes, coordinates or assists in the organization of activities, such as the Annual Behavioral Health Conference, Health/Community Fairs, Town Hall meetings, Broward Youth Coalition activities, Commission task forces and other events to support prevention awareness consistent with the Community Action Plan.&nbsp;</li><li>Responsible for completing all mandatory support documentation and data entry which follows contract requirements for timeliness and accuracy.</li><li>Responsible for prompt compliance with all Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention and/or United Way of Broward regulations and requirements.</li><li>Maintains productivity requirement and expected billable units per week.</li><li>Responsible and accountable for attendance at Commission Meetings supervision meetings, and audit preparation meetings.</li><li>Serves as a customer service role model to ensure a positive relationship in interactions with all participants, volunteers, the community, and peers.</li><li>Perform duties as needed and/or requested to support and maintain accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement of the Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention and United Way of Broward County.</li><li>Must be able to work evenings/weekends and maintain reliable transportation.</li><li>Must be able to be at work consistently with regular attendance and punctuality and be willing and able to handle all the duties and responsibilities of this position daily.</li><li>Responds appropriately and effectively to the diversity of co-workers, consumers and stakeholders.&nbsp;</li><li>Takes responsibility for other assignments as they arise in the development of UWBC’s Commission activities.</li><li>Coordinates planning and requests from other Divisions that relate to UWBC’s Commission.</li><li>Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be fully engaged in the organization's crisis plan and response efforts.</li></ul>Supervises: &nbsp;Volunteers if applicableEducation &amp; Experience:&nbsp;Combination of education and experience represented by:<ul><li>Bachelor's degree and/or at least 4 years’ experience working in the Mental Health and Substance Abuse related field.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in Human Services Substance Abuse/Mental Health, community organization, program outreach and training facilitation, required.</li><li>Certified Prevention Professional, preferred.</li><li>Administrative &amp; Supervisory experience working with volunteers.&nbsp;</li><li>High Proficiency required in Microsoft office products like Excel and other related computer programs.</li><li>Strong organizational, customer service and interpersonal skills are required.</li><li>Will be required to drive to various outreach locations in Broward County. MUST have reliable transportation.&nbsp;</li><li>Strong desire to help others in need. Must be self-motivated, compassionate, have a positive attitude and determined to advocate for the rights and needs and vulnerable people in our community.&nbsp;</li></ul>Environment &amp; Physical Demands:&nbsp;The environment is climate controlled (i.e., heated and air-conditioned).&nbsp; Lighting is adequate through overhead lighting as well as windows and blinds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.&nbsp; Physical demands include sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting approximately 25 pounds, regular use of the telephone, copier, fax and computer.&nbsp; Demands also involve protracted concentration.&nbsp;
