Position Summary 

United Way of Central Indiana recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Senior Manager leads United Way of Central Indiana's (UWCI) volunteer engagement strategies, programs, team, and partnerships. The Senior Manager promotes and executes volunteer engagement experiences and opportunities (for both individuals and corporations) that effectively support UWCI's mission and goals and increase participants' affinity for UWCI. The Senior Manager leads the creation and execution of strategies to strengthen and grow relationships with corporate partners, individual donors, Community Based Organizations, and volunteers. The Senior Manager guides development and execution of team goals that align with overarching organization goals around engagement.  

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadership:Providestrategic direction and supervision for the Volunteer Engagement Team (positions listed below). Assure coordinated and clear individual and team goals are identified and monitored.Provide guidance and direction to team members while promoting individual thinking and innovation. Regular and meaningful updates with each team member are expected. 

  • Strategy Development: Responsible for creating and driving innovative strategies that will optimize engagement experiences for all key stakeholders.  This strategy includes creating new opportunities and/or revitalizing existing efforts that aim to include impactful ways for community members to feel inspired and participate with UWCI. 

  • Volunteer Management: Act as lead volunteer coordinator for all UWCI signature events and activities (Elevate, Thought Leadership Events, Annual Celebration, Go All IN Day, etc.).Provide support and leadership to the volunteer engagement team to help assure all engagement opportunities are effective, efficient, and meaningful.  

  • Programming: Oversee strategic development of various UWCI engagement programs, including leadership development programs, volunteer opportunities, immersive learning initiatives and cause-based initiatives.Act as programmatic lead for the Connecting Hearts at Home program in partnership with Eli Lilly and Company. Work cross-functionally to redesign and implement the Impact Ambassador program (volunteers who speak on behalf of UWCI and partner CBOs to share personal stories and solicit donations) to ensure the needs of all stakeholders are met.     

  • Financial Responsibility: Assist Vice President of Workplace Fundraising and Volunteer Engagement with the development of program budgets.Monitor program budgets with assistance of Volunteer Engagement Team Members. Work with fundraising team members to help secure external funding for projects that support volunteer & engagement activities.  

  • Data Analysis: Ensure the accurate and consistent capture and measurement of volunteer and participant data. Collaboratecross-functionally with the Strategic Information and Intelligence division to analyze volunteer and participant data to make decisions on programming and to learn more about the behaviors of those that engage with UWCI. Share insights about the impact of volunteer and participant behavior onorganizational goals, including donor acquisition, retention, and growth.  

  • Relationships: Work cross-functionally to identify, develop and implement opportunities to engage constituents in impact work. Partner with Impact division to develop annual and long-term volunteer recruitment and engagement plans. Identify opportunities for community collaboration. Develop and maintain regular contact with community partners. Identify and communicate with appropriate UWCI team members regarding opportunities to leverage these relationships more broadly.   

  • Communication: Be knowledgeable about UWCI's work in Central Indiana and be an effective and compelling communicator of the same to advance engagement and brand value.  

  • Annual Goals: Work with other Volunteer Engagement Team members to ensure that goals reflect, align,and contribute to the organization's broader goals. Achieve the annual goals.  

  • Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Non-profit Management, Administration,or similar field or five years of relevant experiencerequired. 

  • Experience with Hands on connect, Salesforce database or other similar volunteer management and CRM systems is preferred. 

  • Five years of supervisory experience is desirable. 

  • Proficiency in computer skills and attention to detail are essential. 

  • Effective time management and multitasking abilities are required to meet deadlines. 

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are crucial for success.

FLSA Status:         Exempt

Salary Range:       Mid 60's to Low 70's
