Job Summary


This position performs professional level accounting work and assists with internal and external audits. Employee works with some independence subject to established United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona policies and procedures, referring to supervisor for consultation on significant deviations or unusual programs. Position reports to the Controller, Finance.

Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000/annually

Responsibilities


Reconciliation of Subsidiary Ledgers to General Ledger

•    Reconcile monthly bank statements for all cash and investment accounts, research outstanding checks over 90 days, create and issue returned check notices.
•    Verify and reconcile various accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis, including allocations payable, suspense/audit account(s), pledges receivable accounts, and many others.
•    Assist in preparation of yearly schedules for independent audit.
•    Maintain audit schedules throughout the year whenever possible.
•    Prepare financial and programmatic statements, including Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activities.


Accounting Administration

•    Conduct annual fixed asset inventory, maintain records, and make changes when necessary for acquisition or disposal of property.
•    Confirm payments to agencies when requested by independent auditors.
•    Complete assigned special projects providing financial information and reports to outside parties.
•    Work closely with other finance functions, ensuring accuracy and cohesiveness of department.
•    Maintain financial files and records.
•    Serve as cross-functional backup for other positions as assigned.

Payroll Processing

•    Maintain employee confidentiality and protect payroll operations by keeping all private information confidential.
•    Instruct employees on usage of their timesheet and reset passwords as needed. 
•    Ensure all hours are accurately recorded and charged to correct cost centers.
•    Bi-weekly payroll processing and manual payroll checks as necessary.
•    Develop financial and operational reports when requested by compiling summary data of earnings, taxes, deductions, PTO, benefits, etc.
•    Upload and verify import files into financial database when necessary.

Customer Service

•    Provides excellent customer service as a component of all job duties.
•    Responds professionally to requests for information in a positive and timely manner.
•    Directs incoming requests for information to other departments as necessary.
•    Incorporates all applicable components of UWTSA’s current annual strategy into annual work plan.

Administrative Functions

•    Perform duties in accordance with UWTSA policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings, completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports and POs as assigned.
•    Assist in developing policies, procedures, schedules, and assignments to support department and/or organizational goals and objectives.
•    Safeguard assets and sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of integrity, professionalism, and care.
•    Participate in a variety of special projects and prepare an assortment of special reports.
•    Assist in training and cross training staff and volunteers, serve as backup to staff, and act as project lead as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university or college, 2-4 years of progressively responsible professional level accounting experience, not-for-profit preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
•    Knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of accounting and auditing and their application to fund accounting systems.
•    Ability to work autonomously to organize and prioritize work, perform multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines, identify and resolve problems and coordinate efforts with other staff members.
•    Strong analysis skills with the ability to identify errors and omissions in data and reports.
•    Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain strict confidentiality, and to respect and observe organizational practices.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Demonstrated skills using Windows-based software, including, but not limited to, internet browsers, e-mail, and database software. Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.
•    Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff as well as diverse vendors, volunteers, donors, community partners, and other stakeholders.
•    Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities.
•    Must possess a current and valid Arizona Driver’s License and provide proof of auto insurance.
•    Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. when necessary.
