
Graphic Designer
POSITION SUMMARY
(Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)
The ideal candidate will be a strong, self-motivated, technical and conceptual mid-level graphic designer. They will have an immaculate sense of composition, layout, and typography. We need someone who can see the big picture but is also detail oriented who has the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with little oversight.
This role is responsible for the conceptualization, design, execution, and delivery of digital, social media, and traditional media assets that are a compelling embodiment of the United Way brand. This position manages a variety of concurrent design projects for multiple internal stakeholders from concept through post-delivery - and is responsible for ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and at a high level of quality.
This person will participate in the development of team projects, action plans, work processes and systems. This position is in some instances; client facing so the ability to talk about and present your work in an organized and thoughtful way is imperative.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:
- Work closely with UWW internal stakeholders to conceptualize, design, execute, and deliver interactive digital media including but not limited to: email marketing and social media assets (static and animated), digital publications, marketing/product collateral (print and digital) and other graphic media for UWW internal stakeholders, local United Ways, and high-profile national partners.
- Ensure technical compliance with United Way Brand Standards & Guidelines (including Digital Standards) across all design work.
- Evaluates multiple competing initiatives and allocates own time to maximize organizational impact.
- Serve as a connection point and subject matter expert across functions. Provide technical assistance to UWW internal stakeholders and local United Ways, on an as-needed basis, to resolve design questions and support compliance with the United Way Brand Standards & Guidelines.
- Maintain efficient and scalable production of all digital assets--templates, resizing and versioning.
- Can distill complex ideas and content into clear design recommendations and presents options with clarity and purpose.
- Properly manage and organize all final digital and social media assets including accessible organization, tagging, distributing, archiving and storage (including all applicable sites)
- Provide design support for United Way's flagship website (unitedway.org), subsidiary websites and other publicly available digital projects.
- Execute other duties, as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree (Visual Arts or Graphic Design preferred) or commensurate experience.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in a similar role.
- Significant professional experience and advanced proficiency in: Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) Adobe Premier Pro, Microsoft Office.
- Strong familiarity with illustration, electronic communications and social media platforms as well as an immaculate sense of typography, layout, both print and digital design.
- Experience with Digital Asset Management platforms
- Experience with Smartsheet is a plus
- Superb detail orientation; ensuring technical compliance for all assets in alignment with United Way Brand Standards & Guidelines (and Digital Guidelines).
- Strong project and time management skills, with a proven track record of consistently delivering projects on time, and with a high level of quality; proven ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated relationship management expertise, preferably in a large decentralized, matrix organization.
- Advertising Agency experience a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as detail orientation.
- Must be a creative and innovative digital and graphic designer with a keen understanding of how to leverage digital/social graphics to clearly define and articulate the United Way brand in a compelling way, spanning varying applications and audiences.
- Must be team-oriented with a strategic and collaborative approach to creative development in a demanding fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
- Agency experience a plus.
- Design portfolio required: PDF portfolio upload (or URL to online portfolio) is a requirement for consideration.

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted salary range for this position is currently $74,000 to $85,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
