Job Title: Financial Coach

Department: Community Impact

Reports To: Director of Financial Stability Programs

Position Type: Non-exempt, hourly, $31 per hour

Location: Tacoma, Washington

Job Summary:

The Financial Coach is responsible for coordinating and implementing asset-building strategies aimed at increasing financial stability and wealth-building opportunities for low- to moderate-income individuals and families. This role involves direct client interaction, community outreach, and collaboration with partner organizations to deliver comprehensive financial education, coaching, and resource linkage. The Financial Coach will play a key role in helping individuals achieve long-term financial goals, such as homeownership, higher education, and retirement planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Client Services:
    • Provide one-on-one financial coaching to clients, including budgeting, credit counseling, debt management, and savings strategies.
    • Assist clients in setting and achieving financial goals, including asset-building milestones such as homeownership, education savings, and retirement planning.
    • Conduct workshops and group training sessions on financial literacy topics.
  2. Program Coordination:
    • Develop and implement asset-building programs and initiatives in alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and program data using tools such as Salesforce, MS Excel, and other data management systems.
    • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adjusting as necessary to improve outcomes.
  3. Community Outreach:
    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to promote asset-building resources and services.
    • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and workshops to raise awareness of asset-building opportunities.
    • Develop and distribute educational materials and resources to clients and community partners.
  4. Resource Linkage:
    • Connect clients with relevant resources and services, including down payment assistance programs, education grants, and matched savings programs.
    • Facilitate access to financial products and services that support asset building, such as safe and affordable banking options.
  5. Advocacy and Policy:
    • Advocate for policies and practices that promote asset building and financial stability for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
    • Stay informed about local, state, and federal policies affecting asset building and financial stability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, social work, education, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial education, coaching, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts, including budgeting, credit, savings, and investments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in data management tools such as Salesforce, MS Excel, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of promoting financial stability and asset building for underserved communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in financial coaching or counseling (e.g., AFCPE, NFCC) is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or other languages) are highly desirable.

Work Environment:

  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours to accommodate client needs and community events.
  • Some travel within the community and to partner sites may be required.
