United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties is located near Orlando, Florida. The geographical area is very diverse: from the Ocala National Forest with natural springs, to the densely populated THe Villages, to the suburbs of Clermont, to agricultural ranches and orange groves, and the popular Mount Dora and Reninger's Antique and Flea Market. There are many recreational activities available: horseback riding, hiking, camping, tubing and canoeing natural springs, community theaters, and many community festivals throughout the year.
The two counties have a total population of 430,000 and is growing daily. While there are many businesses moving into the area, tourism and hospitality are still the major industries. The ALICE population makes up 35% of the total population; the senior population is currently growing at a rate of 16% per year.
