Ensures that accounting transactions are recorded and reported accurately and in a timely fashion.</li><li>Performs journalizing entries and posting of cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general journal entries in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.&nbsp;</li><li>Prepare the month end close journal entries for responsible areas.</li><li>Prepare balance sheet account reconciliation and perform variance analysis.</li><li>Maintain organized, accurate and complete accounting records.</li><li>Assist with account analysis, as needed.</li><li>Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports on a timely basis.</li><li>Manage financial record retention and destruction.</li><li>Assist with completion of surveys &amp; statistical reports.</li><li>Assist with annual budget processes.</li></ul>Accounts Payable and Receivable:<ul><li>Monitor accounts payable process to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies, procedures, and controls, including review of employee travel/expense reports.</li><li>Control the timing of vendor payments to maximize available cash balance.</li><li>Pay agencies, based on Board approved Agency investments, through online banking system sets up new agencies on direct deposit.</li><li>Maintain systems necessary for accurate distribution of grants and designations.</li><li>Maintain and update accounts receivable by posting payment transactions to existing receivables.</li><li>Analyze accounts receivable aging for accounts and transactions that require further investigation or adjustments.&nbsp;</li><li>Prepare and mail direct billing statements to individuals and organizations and track payments.</li><li>Generate receivable batch reports and prepare information in a format for general ledger entries.</li><li>Prepare bank deposits for pledge payments and deliver to the bank.</li><li>Enter and process credit card payments.</li></ul>Annual campaign:<ul><li>Oversee pledges receivable process, including receipting, posting, invoicing and statement preparation.</li><li>Work closely with the Resource Development team relative to the finance staff’s work, including monitoring campaign performance and projections for the monthly financial statements.</li><li>Reconcile Customer Relationship Management software (Andar) pledges and accounting software (MIP).</li><li>Assist in auditing campaign envelopes and with entering campaign designation information into campaign software database.</li></ul>Audits:<ul><li>Assist with annual audit, reporting and other projects, as assigned in preparation of audit work schedules.</li><li>Assist in the preparation of the annual tax return information for External Auditors&nbsp;</li><li>Assist in the preparation of the audited financial statements and footnotes.</li><li>Respond to outside agency audit information requests.</li><li>Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to ensure fiscal integrity.</li><li>Maintain appropriate financial and accounting files.</li></ul>Payroll:<ul><li>Assist with bi-weekly payroll process, as needed.</li><li>Review payroll and related journal entries and provide back-up to the payroll accountant.&nbsp;</li><li>Assist with payroll preparation, including tax filing.</li></ul>&nbsp;Education and Experience:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.</li><li>Certification as a public accountant (CPA) is preferred.</li><li>Non-profit experience preferred, with fund accounting experience preferred.</li><li>Experience working with CRM software (ex. Senior Accountant

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, The Finance Director is responsible for all accounting duties for the United Way of North Central Massachusetts (UWNCM), including but not limited to data processing, deposit preparation, account and bank reconciliations, financial statements and budget preparations.&nbsp; The Finance Director works closely with all UWNCM personnel to ensure timely and accurate processing and reporting.&nbsp; The Finance Director produces and analyzes financial reports on a monthly/quarterly basis. &nbsp;This is a 20 hour per week position.
Responsibilities and Duties
<ul><li>Complete month-end close, process all general ledger entries as received on a monthly basis</li>
<li>Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance</li>
<li>Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the attention of the President/CEO</li>
<li>Reconcile balance sheet and P&amp;L accounts</li>
<li>Work closely with Treasurer to prepare/present bi-monthly financial reports for the Finance Committee</li>
<li>Coordinate annual audit.&nbsp; Work closely with the audit team to ensure a complete and timely audit</li>
<li>Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures</li>
<li>Maintain financial security by following internal controls</li>
<li>Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements</li>
<li>Supervise part time Bookkeeper</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned by President/CEO</li>
<li>Prepare yearly operating budget, working closely with UWNCM Treasurer and President/CEO</li>
<li>Skills and Qualifications</li>
</ul><ul><li>Associate or Bachelor Degree in Accounting</li>
<li>4+ years’ experience in general or non-profit accounting</li>
<li>Expertise with QuickBooks accounting system and Andar Enterprise database</li>
<li>Excellent organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills</li>
<li>Strong management skills</li>
<li>Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment</li>
<li>Detail-oriented with strong time management skills</li>
