Basic Job Summary

The Volunteer & Operations Coordinator will focus on deepening relationships and while implementing fundraising and volunteer strategies to increase employee and customer engagement.  Primary job responsibilities also include providing superior customer service to key constituents including donors and company campaign coordinators as well as new business development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Volunteer and Community Outreach
  1. Assist COO in managing and nurturing assigned accounts to develop stronger United Way relationships.
  2. Assist COO with maintaining consistent volunteer and account contacts and creatively explore and introduce additional United Way opportunities as appropriate.
  3. Assist COO with fundraising potential at assigned accounts to develop a strategic plan for each account that will drive future financial goals.
  4. Provide operational support and direct report to COO.
  5. Build Volunteer Relationships and Resources: Serve as a “Relationship Champion” by nurturing existing relationships with volunteers and community partners and inspiring individuals to act by moving from “aware” to “interested” and “engaged” to “mobilized”. 

6.Recruit and engage volunteers from key UWA market segments and build on those relationships to maximize volunteer resources in support of UWA initiatives.

  1. Actively seek new methods of recruiting volunteers not currently engaged in United Way of Acadiana activities to maximize volunteer and medical volunteer impact.
  2. Maintain a connection with volunteers and other community partners of United Way of Acadiana through year-round communication.
  3. Engage Volunteers and drive participation to volunteer activities like the Medical Reserve Corps by creating strategic partnerships and fostering community engagement. Build and establish a network of medical volunteers as well other volunteer types.
  4. Work closely with other members of the team to create connections that will inspire individuals to volunteer and increase community engagement.
  5. Maintain knowledge of all United Way of Acadiana “key messages” to provide reliable customer service and accurate information at all times.   Additionally, ensure information is tailored to volunteer interests.
  6. Work closely with the Marketing Team to maintain a strong brand identity and brand experience with volunteers for all projects under your responsibility.
  7. Communicate effectively and timely with volunteers maintaining the utmost professionalism to create a positive volunteer experience.
  8. Work with the UWA team members to ensure that volunteers are appropriately acknowledged and recognized.
  9. Identify and connect with potential new volunteers, organizations, associations, etc., who are interested in supporting UWA.

  1. Assist COO with meetings and administrative support.
  2. Advocate and support special event activities that create a fun operational and volunteer  environment.
  3. Work with the marketing department to help develop and execute best practices.
  1. Administrative
  1. Inputting into CRM accurate donor information, all external meetings, follow-up notes, important communications, and all opportunities.
  2. Assist COO with ECM engagement for workplace campaigns and community impact.
  3. Manage communications for online/paper forms.
  4. Manage supplies when needed.  
  5. Maintains all supporting documentation in an organized filing system.
  6. Assists with all operational projects.
  7. Assist COO with special projects and assignments.
  8. Provide excellent customer service for volunteers, donors, and partners including relationship building with committee volunteers and their administrative teams.
  9. Creates an atmosphere that respects and embraces engagement of all people, ideas and backgrounds and aligns with United Way’s values.
  10. Analyze and track donor engagement.
  11. Provide operational support and direct report to COO.

Job Classification


College Degree Preferred or applicable work experience.


Previous account management and/or customer service/volunteer coordination experience is preferrable. Managing relationships, providing exceptional customer service and strong executional skills is preferred. Time management, prioritizing and executing is required.
