Volunteers United is a key program of the United Way of Hancock County. The Volunteer Coordinator engages diverse stakeholders to accurately assess community needs concerning volunteerism, service, and grants. They are strong in relationship building and highly organized.


  • Articulate UWHC's message to inspire others to act in service to UWHC and our community
  • Develop and manage opportunities for volunteer service, matching corporate groups to projects, supporting capacity building to Hancock County non-profits through technical assistance and placement of volunteers and promoting the value of volunteer service and civic engagement through special projects and recognition events.
  • Coordinate office volunteer staffing to meet project deadlines


  • Promote community volunteerism, the value of service, and civic engagement by collecting and disseminating info about volunteer needs and opportunities
  • Identify and develop new opportunities and facilitate placement of volunteers
  • Actively recruit volunteers for UWHC, partner agencies and other community orgs
  • Manage retention of volunteers to UWHC
  • Recruit and engage diverse community leaders to serve on the Volunteer Committee
  • Guide Volunteer Committee to develop, improve, execute volunteer processes, technologies, and projects to grow the Volunteer Center
  • Coordinate and supervise office volunteers, interns, and injured workers
  • Work with corporate, faith, government, and education sectors to promote volunteerism
  • Manage group volunteer experiences that deepen participants’ knowledge about community issues and their relationship with UWHC
  • Collaborate with corporations to meet corporate responsibility objectives & strengthen volunteer policies
  • Develop service-learning opportunities and channels for youth volunteerism
  • Provide oversight of large-scale volunteer events such as Days of Caring
  • Provide training and technical assistance to enable volunteer success
  • Manage data measuring the effectiveness of volunteer recruitment, referral, and utilization
  • Recruit, engage and assist volunteers during times of large-scale disasters
  • Represent UWHC on the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC/Red Cross) 


  • Excellent organizational, planning, project, and time management skills
  • People-oriented with a strong history of service to your community
  • Proficient in business software and systems including all Microsoft Office programs. Experience with web-based data systems is a plus.
  • Critical thinker/problem solver - able to address complex issues to achieved desired results 
  • Initiative for planning and developing new opportunities to increase UWHC's impact and meet community needs

STATUS:  PART TIME/ HOURLY / NON-EXEMPT (with potential to explore moving to full time)
