Summary:

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is a key part in the work done by United Way of the Plains Financial Stability focus area, which assists residents in becoming financially independent by focusing on education and services that build financial stability. The VITA Program Manager is responsible for the coordination and execution of the VITA program which provides free tax services for households that meet eligibility requirements.[DM1] [MP2] 

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Community Impact, the VITA Program Manager will assist in developing, implementing, and reporting on vital components of the VITA program. Candidate must have strong professional, interpersonal, project management and communication skills. Focus of responsibilities will include (and are not limited to): 

  • Project management of marketing and communication activities and collateral 
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment, training, and retention[DM3] [MP4] 
  • Planning and implementation of special events, such as Mega Tax Days 
  • Coordination and implementation of outreach and education activities 
  • Execute in-person outreach in assigned counties, engaging prospective partners, and building awareness of Financial Stability goals and services 
  • Complete VITA training and certification in accordance with IRS and United Way of the Plains requirements 
  • Grant writing, grant reporting

Minimum requirements and qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 

• Great attention to detail 

• Strong problem-solving skills 

• Computer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of varied and changing    constituencies including staff, community representatives, and volunteers

• Ability to represent United Way with public/private partners across all levels of organizations 

• Ability to work independently, with proven time management skills

•Self-motivated professional and team player who is inclusive, flexible, creative, curious, and energetic 

• Decisive and resourceful individual with the willingness to accept responsibility and take charge of results; able to pivot and problem solve 

• Must be available to work flexible hours during the tax season, including evenings and Saturdays

Physical Demands:

These physical demands are representative of the requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • The employee is required to actively listen and communicate clearly. 
  • The employee is required to speak publicly. 
  • The employee is required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, twist, lean, move from one location to another and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds. 
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close and far. 
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, and lift files and reports. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license and means of transportation.
