Position Overview:

United Way draws on its 70-year history and reputation to forge groundbreaking partnerships with government, business, and other foundations. Working with key partners, we facilitate the mutual exchange of research and best practices, so that proven strategies shape our work and the work of nonprofits in the region. To make the greatest impact possible, United Way aligns a network of more than 200 independent health and human service under the same set of community goals:

This position will assist the Chief Development Officer in creating and implementing strategies and building relationships that will significantly increase revenue generation. The Vice President (VP) will oversee the revenue generation within corporate and employee giving with a focus on building partnerships centered around impact and UW's work. This can include traditional employee giving campaigns, corporate gifts, and corporate foundation support. The VP will also oversee work on developing new brand of corporate partnerships that provide a deeper level of alignment with United Way's impact strategy. Leveraging United Way's traditional fundraising strategies as well as our annual Signature Fundraising and Community events, and creatively thinking of new ideas, the VP will be responsible for connecting corporate partners to UW work. The VP is responsible for developing a long-term vision and the strategies to realize that vision.

In order to succeed, the VP must build a strong partnership with the Senior Development Team. The VP will lead a team of (7) dedicated professionals and in addition, will manage external volunteer committees, most notably the annual Campaign and a number of regional advisory boards across the region. The VP and team will represent United Way at industry and community functions by attending events and where appropriate by seeking leadership roles in order to expand United Way presence throughout these industries.

The appropriate candidate will be a leader, and a creative and sharp thinker. They will be able to negotiate various internal and external interests and tasks simultaneously as well as managing other related duties.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Develop Annual Business Plan to realize significant revenue growth across all sectors

The VP, in collaboration with CDO and other members of the Senior Development Team, will be responsible for creating annual and long-term business strategies needed to secure additional financial support to United Way. The VP will be responsible for managing the action steps and results and track revenue generation throughout the year-specifically providing monthly projections against goal, with a strong emphasis on understanding and follow up of revenue projected but not yet processed.

Responsible for portfolio of Priority Partner accounts and Business Development

The VP will maintain a portfolio of priority partner accounts and will use best practices to raise revenue including building partnerships around UW's impact work, aligning with companies who share common impact interests, leadership asks, special events, etc. The VP is also responsible for executing business development as appropriate - bringing in new partners and growing those relationships.

Manage and Develop Direct Reports

The VP is responsible for coaching and managing their team to create vision and strategies to enhance relationships between United Way and corporations. Coaching and managing a high-performance team is critical to the success of the Corporate Relations team and building (and supporting) team culture both in the Boston office and across regional offices will be critical.

Manage and Inspire Volunteer Campaign Groups across all sectors

Create an ECM Community to inspire a group of Campaign Managers to greater generosity of time, influence, and money. Connect ECMs to the valuable role they play in creating Community Impact through successful workplace campaigns, increased volunteerism, and advocacy. Host an annual training session to share best practices and provide the tools for their success.

Expand Initiatives and Giving Society Membership

Partner with the Individual Giving and Engagement teams to further engage corporate partners and their employees through new engagement opportunities and through existing initiatives, such as the Real Estate, Private Equity and Venture Capital and Women's Leadership Breakfasts. Work with team to expand and Giving Society growth in the Alexis de Tocqueville and Beacon societies.

Organize relationship building and donor responsibilities efficiently and effectively

Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to successfully deploy resources against revenue objectives. Maintain accurate and detailed donor and account records in order to analyze deployment of resources against objectives. Assign relationship management responsibilities throughout your team. Assess and evaluate areas of responsibility and adjust resources across all industries as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 12 - 15 years of consultative sales experience in either the private sector or non-profit setting.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory skills and experience.
  • Focused development, sales and/or marketing experience with applied emphasis on customer relationship building, applied consultative sales skills (ability to tie United Way benefits to partner needs) and demonstrated success with effective listening skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with an ability to relate with a diverse group of individuals or organizations in an effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High-energy individual who takes initiative with a positive outlook who can manage ambiguity and change.
  • Manage expectations of internal team members effectively and a strong desire and aptitude to be part of a team environment.
  • Experience with workplace giving a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $125,000 per year
