Program Distribution

United Way Worldwide fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community by ensuring everyone has access to a quality education, a sustainable income, good health, and stable housing.   

As an AmeriCorps VISTA with United Way Worldwide you will make an impact in the health area by addressing hunger and food insecurity. You will identify resources and create tools and training to help United Ways across the U.S. empower BIPOC individuals and families so they are better able to access nutritious food and receive health education to maximize their food budget and cook healthy meals. As a result of your efforts, United Way Worldwide will better understand what food services currently available, new ways to engage volunteers in service to support BIPOC communities, and which best practices can be adopted to increase program impact and leverage resources to better achieve program goals.

Additional Information

AmeriCorps VISTA offers Childcare assistance if eligible, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend upon successful completion of service, Health Coverage, Living Allowance, Relocation Allowance, Training

Professional Development

Ongoing technical training and support will be provided in-house. The VISTA will also be directed and encouraged to seek out additional opportunities for professional development to enhance their role, including capacity-building training and webinars offered by organizations like One, The Center for Nonprofit Management, Feed America, and Share Our Strength.

Minimum Age - 21 

Minimum Education - College graduate with Bachelor’s degree

Language Requirement - Required: English fluent (speaking & writing).  

AmeriCorps VISTA Activities:

VISTA responsibilities include: 1. Create or improve materials and training that strengthen volunteer recruitment and fundraising such as brochures, toolkits and targeted training curricula. 2. Increase financial resources by organizing fundraising events and seeking donations for specific projects through proposal writing and strengthened relationships with donors. 4. Ensure volunteer-led and supported initiatives have a steady supply of competent and engaged volunteers by building partners’ capacity to recruit, manage and retain those volunteers. 5. Update existing poverty simulations to incorporate more choices related to food security. 6. Enhance and promote an online volunteer project library and create new content focused on food security. 7. Develop communication tools that promote United Way Worldwide food security programming and events and support volunteer engagement leaders. 8. Develop and strengthen partnerships with organizations addressing food insecurity.
