Technology Support Specialist

ABOUT MICHIGAN 2-1-1: Michigan 2-1-1 coordinates and supports easy access to information about community services through a network of regional partners sharing data and communications technology platforms.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Technology Director, Michigan 2-1-1 is seeking a Technology Support Specialist to support the smooth operation of the shared 2-1-1 technology platform, manage technology vendor relationships, and provide informed guidance to address technology needs of the Michigan 2-1-1 system and its individual partners as the system grows and evolves.


  • Working with the Technology Director to ensure all technology systems are functioning as needed to provide access to 2-1-1 services and meet contractual obligations, including the resource database, telecommunications platform, online interface and social media
  • Coordinating with 2-1-1 partners and technology vendors to promptly resolve any issues that limit or interfere with access to 2-1-1 services
  • Supporting and maintaining the functionality and interoperability of 2-1-1 technology systems
  • Consulting with internal and external users to ascertain needs and to ensure that the 2-1-1 system’s technology meets user and/or project requirements
  • Adhering to the Michigan 2-1-1 technology budget
  • Ensuring adherence with software licensing laws
  • Implementing and managing security or integrity and backup procedures in conjunction with the Technology Director
  • Implementing upgrades
  • Working with the Technology Director and 2-1-1 partners to ensure end-users have needed training, support, advice and feedback to effectively use 2-1-1 system technologies
  • Testing and modifying systems to ensure that that they operate reliably
  • Managing secure network access for remote users
  • Keeping up-to-date with new technology and providing guidance to Michigan 2-1-1 partners on technology needs and opportunities to improve or enhance services
  • Designing maintenance procedures and putting them into operation
  • Providing data reports and analytics from the 2-1-1 resource database and telecommunications systems to address information needs of 2-1-1 leadership and key partners, and to meet grant and contract requirements
  • Fostering clear and open communication among internal and external partners


  • Experienced professional
  • Bachelor’s degree required or comparable experience in IT or telecommunications and database technology management
  • Strong project management capability, meets timelines and is accountable
  • Thrives in outcomes-oriented and fast-paced environment 
  • Operates with a high level of personal responsibility, optimism, and entrepreneurialism
  • Builds long-term relationships with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrates deep commitment to and belief in Michigan 2-1-1’s mission and values
  • Ability to travel statewide

Experience working with the variety of technology and software systems used by Michigan 2-1-1 and its partners is a plus. These include:

  • Educational Message Services (EMS) text messaging
  • ESRI
  • Microsoft Power BI
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Web development software ((Drupal, Wordpress, and/or Joomla)
