The Opportunity: 

The Staff Accountant positions is an exempt union level position and is a vital part of the finance team.  The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of the company’s reports and statements.  In this role you will be responsible for reconciling accounts monthly to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.

The successful candidate is detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced environment has strong collaborative skills, positive approach, high energy, and results oriented.  Experience with MIP, Salesforce and Concur a plus.  This position requires a strategic thinker and self-starter with the ability to improve processes and efficiencies. 

What you’ll do:

  • Perform general level accounting duties according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain the general ledger, preparing a trial balance and reconciling entries.
  • Process all monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Post journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Assist Controller with month-end closing process.
  • Support A/P and Revenue processing as needed.
  • Coordinate audit field work and prepare working papers for annual audit by agency independent auditors.
  • Monthly reconciliation of subledger to general ledger.
  • Review new contracts for incorporation into the accounting/reporting process.
  • Generate department/program budget variance reports. 
  • Prepare accruals, process payroll journal into general ledger, and assist in forecasts as needed.

Who you are:

  • 2 - 4 years accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and problem solving is a must
  • Experience with Salesforce, MS Office, MIP and Concur
  • Experience reconciling various types of accounts
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and net assets/restricted funding
  • Strong management and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Experience working in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs is desirable

Salary:  $75,000
