POSITION SUMMARY
United Way Worldwide seeks an experienced and collaborative fundraiser to work in partnership with the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Development team to manage, cultivate and solicit long-term relationships with principal gift donors while leveraging the relationships and the vision of the President and CEO to secure philanthropic support for strategic organizational initiatives.
The Sr. Director, Principal Gifts will report directly to our Chief Development Officer while working closely with the CEO, to broaden the base of philanthropic support for the organization, particularly in connection with principal gifts. They will work in tandem with their Development colleagues, Executive Leadership, and other staff to coordinate the cultivation and solicitation of principal prospects.
The Sr. Director, Principal Gifts will provide direct support to the CEO to achieve ambitious goals for philanthropic support for strategic initiatives and organizational funding priorities for the United Way network. This position plays a critical role in developing meaningful connections between UWW and key donors and donor prospects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
The significant areas of responsibility for the Director, Principal Gifts include, but are not limited to, the following:

Working with approximately 50 principal-level prospects in partnership with our CEO, through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles. Forging long-term relationships with these donors to cultivate their interest in United Way Worldwide.

Develop and execute thoughtful donor strategies to ensure philanthropic support from the highest level of assigned donors/prospects. Ensuring all interested parties are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects.

Overseeing the preparation of funding proposals, talking points and scripts, assessments of potential support, briefings, gift agreements, and stewardship reports for assigned prospects.

Coordinate and collaborate with the Executive Leadership team on opportunities for their involvement with specific fundraising and engagement events and initiatives with top prospects.

Providing staff assistance to the CEO with donor cultivation, solicitations, and interactions with top donor prospects.

Precisely documenting donor interactions and next steps in the organizational CRM system while effectively communicating donor engagement updates to staff and network colleagues.

Coordinating and collaborating with the UWW Executive Leadership Team on opportunities for their involvement with specific fundraising and engagement events and initiatives with top prospects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

5 - 7 years' experience in major donor and gift solicitation, or an equivalent combination of related experience.

Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of support and response.
