POSITION SUMMARY: (Eligible for Hybrid/ 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

Marketing and Communications (Marcoms) professional within United Way Worldwide’s (UWW) Communication team, playing a vital role in optimizing and managing communication channels to effectively disseminate key organizational initiatives, share resources, gather insights, and amplify impactful stories across the global United Way network (“the network”). Responsibilities include the ideation, creation, and ongoing development of communication architecture, coupled with data analytics to measure performance and ensure effective stakeholder engagement.   

Work collaboratively across the Marketing and Communications department and other internal teams to lead, support, and/or execute communication plans and develop and disseminate key communications, resources, assets, and toolkits to the network through the appropriate communications channels such as United Way’s intranet, segmented email campaigns, and weekly network newsletter. Identify stories and resources that will drive awareness of and support for UWW’s vision, services and impact from local United Ways.

Foster relationships with UWW and network stakeholders to deliver communications strategies that articulate United Way’s core values/vision and strengthen connections with core audiences. Actively contribute to content creation around organizational initiatives, owning and executing short- and long-term content strategies. This position requires a communications professional who is as comfortable thinking in the big picture as executing detailed communications plans.  
   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at an excellent level: 

  • Optimize UWW Network communication channels: Enhance channels including United Way’s global intranet site, United Way’s weekly network newsletter, and other network email communications to effectively disseminate organizational initiatives and resources to the network and elevate stories of impact. Serve as primary manager and team subject matter expert for UWW’s email marketing platform, and support efforts to tailor messaging for segmented network audiences, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives and enhancing the impact of our communication efforts. Provide support for Marcoms team by creating and updating content on UWW digital channels including the network intranet site. 
  • Communications planning and project management: Lead and support project management for communications plans advancing key organizational objectives, supporting network relationships, initiatives, and partnerships. 
  • Brand stewardship: Drive adoption of UWW marketing and communications assets across the network, ensuring consistency and effectiveness. Proactively look for and develop new opportunities to support and strengthen the United Way brand. 
  • Writing and editing: Articulate United Way’s story, narrative, messaging, and value proposition to network audiences through drafting and/or editing marketing and communications materials such as newsletters, direct emails, intranet and website content, toolkits, fact sheets, social media content, success stories, PowerPoint presentations, and other tools as needed. 
  • Relationship building: Foster strong professional relationships with colleagues within the network and UWW and partner to ensure alignment with the organization’s communications strategies and messages. 
  • Additional responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned, contributing flexibly to the team’s overall objectives and initiatives.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS: 

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least seven years of prior relevant work experience including project management  
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and email marketing
  • Proven experience creating and executing strategic communications plans including establishing measures of success 
  • Ability to manage and optimize digital communication platforms (e.g. intranet, newsletters, websites) 
  • Strong proficiency in HubSpot or other marketing platforms with expertise in segmentation, user journey mapping, and tracking of campaign performance.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM platform.
  • Solution-oriented, strategic thinker and communicator
  • Relationship builder and collaborator
  • Results-oriented, project manager with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience
  • Experience creating and/or contributing to an organization’s core messaging collateral (e.g. one-page overview, etc.) 
  • Nonprofit experience a plus
  • International experience a plus

SALARY STATEMENT

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $90,000 to $100,000 per year.  Salary is determined by several factors including applicant’s

 knowledge, ­­­skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
