Summary:           This grant funded position provides hands-on management for one or more of United Way Suncoast’s impact areas in support of UWS strategic direction and Community Impact Model related to Early Learning.  The Senior Manager supports families and the community in enhancing the early learning of children ages birth to five years. The Senior Manager, Early Learning and Family Engagement must be customer and partner focused, flexible, data-driven, innovative, and results oriented.  This position will work closely with a variety of internal and external partners to implement strategies across a range of audiences.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Works to support families and community organizations in enhancing their knowledge, practices and experiences to facilitate literacy, social-emotional, and executive functioning skills in children ages birth through five years.  Examples of activities include hosting adult-child learn and play sessions, developing and distributing resources to help adults facilitate children’s learning, and working in partnership with families to develop programs and services that meet their needs.
  • Seeks innovative, evidence-based strategies to support the work of UWS initiatives.
  • Works with other Community Impact managers to implement and manage high-quality programs that meet community level outcomes around Education initiatives, including Neighborhood, Financial Stability, and Volunteer Strategies staff, for example. Works with all departments of UWS to integrate Education-focused activities in our impact work.
  • Serves as needed to support the evolving UWS investment process for Education programs, including participation in the annual volunteer review funding process, reviewing reports, conducting site visits, etc.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with human services and community leaders to maximize UWS’s presence, build relationships, and identify potential partners for Education initiatives.
  • Ensures timely and appropriate data collection, analysis and reporting delivered as needed; works with team members and provides research and applies best practices to the design and continuous improvement of all Community Impact activities. May draft communications materials for volunteer reports, events, marketing, or other organizational use.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of regional education needs, issues, and systems of quality education components. Articulates these both verbally and in writing to all stakeholders. 
  • When asked, works with other UWS staff on designing grant funded projects and writing sections of proposals. When grants are received, integrates new programs into our other Impact work and provides information needed for reports, meeting reporting deadlines. 
  • Maintains a current understanding of and can articulate UWS’s Strategic Plan, all impact and/or focus activities, and all results.  Participates in appropriate internal and external committees in support of UWS’s community impact work.
  • Must be available to work many evening and weekend hours to coincide with the schedules of families needing services.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Community members working on an hourly basis to enhance UWS initiatives.  Volunteers.

Education and/or Experience: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in early childhood education/child development/social services, or related field or equivalent experience.  Master’s degree a plus.  Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience.   Must be able to demonstrate a high level of experience and success in working with families to facilitate their birth to five-year-old children’s development and support them in their management of children’s behavior challenges. Able to facilitate strong partner relationships, build consensus, problem solve, apply critical thinking and judgment skills, and maintain accurate records.  Must be self-motivated and work well independently and in a fast-paced team environment. Knowledge of Family and Community Engagement, Project Management, and Early Educational Systems required.    

Interpersonal Skills: Able to interact effectively with young children as well as adults from varied backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including active listening, conflict resolution, coordination, facilitation, social perceptiveness, and consensus building skills necessary.  Cultural competence required. Successful team building and influencing diverse individuals and groups to achieve necessary outcomes. 

Computer Skills: Requires proficiency with MS office software.  Proficiency with, or ability to learn, data base programs.          

Presentations Skills:  Requires advanced knowledge and ability to develop and deliver presentations, excellent public speaking, and presentation skills.

Licenses:  Valid Florida Driver’s License with a driving record that meets insurance requirements. 

Must pass a Level Two background check for working with young children.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear.  They are frequently required to use finger and hand motions and occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. They must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Team member primarily works in the field, returning to a normal office environment under moderate heat and noise levels when necessary.
