This role is managed by the Director of Community Engagement and exists to bring parent voice into the decision-making process of our initiative and networks consisting of youth service providers. This is accomplished by partnering with organizations and groups who engage with parents across our community, learning about priorities and aspirations for their children’s
education, and representing that perspective in network meetings.


  • Attend monthly network meetings.
  • Coordinate parent workshops/trainings on topics identified by parents.
  • Work with parent council: plan and execute the monthly meetings.
  • Engage with traditionally underrepresented parents/caregivers in the community to understand their concerns and needs in education. Gather and report findings and represent parent/caregiver voice at network meetings.
  • Partner with organizations who engage with traditionally underrepresented parents/caregivers across our community to gather data about barriers families face regarding their children’s educational experience. 
  • Learn about priorities and aspirations for parents/caregivers’ children’s education and represent that perspective in network meetings by providing data report and learnings as needed. 
  • Plan, organize and facilitate interactive sessions in community settings that may include, but are not limited to: information sessions of what is happening in the networks and co-designing solutions; parent advocacy training; and focus groups with families. 
  • Ensure sessions are culturally responsive and appropriate, engaging cultural liaisons as needed.


Are passionate about elevating the voice of parents in education, decision-making and advocating for their needs. Have a strong commitment to promoting equity in education.
Possess the following characteristics:

  • 2-3 years of applicable experience in engaging your community, volunteering, or equivalent academic experience. 
  • Are a connector: build mutually trusting relationships, act as an advocate, encourage and support families to be involved in their children’s education. 
  • Demonstrate cultural competence. 
  • Strong commitment to promoting equity and justice in education. You are willing to advocate for those who are not present, based on what you have learned through previous engagement efforts. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with a diverse range of individuals and communities. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Proficiency in applications like Microsoft Office and Google Suite. 
  • Able to provide own transportation.


  • The typical work week for this position will be no more than 20 hours. Working hours will vary depending on the demands of the job. 
  • We are located in Rochester, MN, and are looking to hire a resident or someone willing to live within daily commuting distance, as we are rooted in our local community. In-person meetings and activities are required as safety permits.
  • Availability outside of typical office hours is expected for special events, as individual circumstances present.
