We seek an engaging, driven marketing professional who will bring strong communication skills and strategic leadership to strengthen our community’s understanding of, and engagement with, United Way of Southwestern Indiana.

Summary: The Marketing & Communications Director is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive plan for marketing, media relations, and year-round communications. This role provides both the leadership and execution of growing UWSWI’s reach and engagement. In addition, the Marketing & Communications Director will guide and support the UWSWI team, Board, and committees with their marketing and communications needs. The Director must be adept in project planning, public speaking, social media management, and writing.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications
• Plan, develop, and implement the PR and communication strategy that supports UWSWI’s goals and objectives. Manage all year-round communications and content development.
• Research and produce written or video stories highlighting United Way’s impact at the individual and community level.
• Monitor and execute all public relations and marketing requirements of UWSWI sponsorships.
• Manage media relations; schedule promotional opportunities, maintain media contact lists, and serve as first point of contact for media inquiries.
• Plan, create, and edit compelling communications, including but not limited to, donor communications, press releases, and blogs that inspire and motivate a variety of audiences.
• Research content ideas and collaborate with staff, committees, and vendors to produce materials.
Brand Management & Community Engagement
• Responsible for advancing the brand and positively positioning UWSWI as a leader and the trusted partner in the community.
• Maintain expertise in UWW brand guidelines and requirements. Educate team members regarding brand standards and work to ensure both adherence and the presentation of a cohesive brand, message, and “voice.”
• Work closely with staff, Board, committee volunteers, and cabinet to understand the United Way brand, value proposition, and impact. Ensure they can clearly articulate our value to our community.
• Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and represent UWSWI at professional and community events.
Marketing
• Develop, in collaboration with the Marketing Committee, and implement the organizational marketing plan, including all print, video, web, advertising, social media, and campaign materials.
• Track advertising performance, conversion rates, and other key performance indicators throughout the year. Analyze performance to refine strategies and/or tactics.
• Monitor, develop, and update website content to maintain a timely, engaging web presence.
• Revise and implement a cohesive social media strategy and annual calendar.
• Develop promotional plans and promotional materials for UWSWI events, programs, and annual campaign. Write copy, programs, scripts, and talking points.
• Serve as the liaison for the Marketing Committee; recruiting members, coordinating committee meetings, and facilitating their work and input.
• Manage the marketing budget.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, or public relations with 3-5 years’ experience. Nonprofit experience preferred.
• Advanced project management skills, with demonstrated success in managing large projects, meeting tight timelines, and attention to follow-up.
• Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of promotional, advertising, and digital marketing campaigns, with proven success in driving key marketing and engagement metrics.
• Superior writing and editing skills; acute attention to detail.
• Ability to translate complex content into engaging messages.
• Exceptional presentation skills; articulate, persuasive public speaking.
• Proficient in relevant computer applications: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact or other email applications, and social media management applications. Experience with WordPress is preferred.
• Proven self-starter and team player, leading projects independently and simultaneously.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and work well under pressure; adaptable to changing priorities.
• Experience managing others.
