The Manager, StrengthenNYC is part of UWNYC’s Community Impact Department and a teammate within the StrengthenNYC Unit.
StrengthenNYC Vision: StrengthenNYC unit is focused on creating strong and sustainable networks of community-based organizations (CBOs) that can operate effectively, are focused on collective impact, and can strategically implement successful solutions that lead to strong communities where all individuals and families have access to quality education and the opportunity to lead healthy and financially secure lives. There are three focus areas under Strengthen NYC through which we will offer resources to our CBOs and corporate volunteers to achieve results that are engaging, meaningful and provide long-term benefits: • Community Building: Individuals and organizations are mobilized around community initiatives • Capacity Building: Non-profit organizations are strong and adaptive collaborators • Network Weaving: Partners commit to shared goals, align activities and share learning
Position Description: The Manager, StrengthenNYC will engage community-based partners to establish relationships that foster trust and support UWNYC’s collective impact and network weaving goals. The Manager will help to assess organizational strengths and capacity building needs, identify best practices and opportunities to fill gaps with community-based partners. The Manager will work in partnership with UWNYC staff, external partners (government, corporate, etc.), consultants and community-based partners to design and streamline processes that focus on collaboration, inclusion, and support the accomplishment of community-based partner grant deliverables and community goals. The Manager, StrengthenNYC will maintain a portfolio of community-based partners. Manager, StrengthenNYC will also maintain ongoing understanding of current implementation challenges and work with the team to develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The Manager, StrengthenNYC will primarily manage Census focused projects during the 2020 Census, coordinating closely with the Mayor’s NYC Census 2020 team and community-based grantees of the Mayor’s Complete Count Fund.
• Establish and maintain effective engagement with partners and key community stakeholders such as, developing memorandums of understanding, holding regular meetings, assessing needs and providing resources or assistance where possible • Review grant agreements and identify key deliverables with community partners • Identify resources or provide training as needed for CBO partners • Identify opportunities for aligned action and coordination among CBO partners • Facilitate convenings and meetings as needed • Conduct site visits as needed and attend events as needed • Participate in relevant local community coalition meetings, events, workshops and other meetings • Serve at primary point of contact between CBO partner and UWNYC • Address partners concerns and unexpected challenges • Evaluate progress towards goals • Ensure reporting and data collected from CBO partners is timely, relevant and high quality • Collaborate with the Learning and Evaluation Team and other partners as needed to analyze CBO partners data and identify trends • Support data collection needs for specific initiatives, projects and the organization at large o Coordinate, compile, update and share community level data o Coordinate and conduct research with community partners as needed to align strategies • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and partners which may include corporate partners and government partners where appropriate
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant field, or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years in a relevant field • • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining effective relationships with community stakeholders • Deep understanding and experience in identifying community assets and needs in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty • Ability to interact comfortably with multiple audiences and engage community stakeholders in an authentic way • Experience and expertise at facilitating community meetings • Strong community outreach and coordination skills • Adaptive learning and facilitative organizing skills • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills • Strategic and critical thinking capacity with an ability to identify innovative solutions • Experience working on public interest issues and grants administration; • Some research, analysis, and writing skills, ideally including qualitative and quantitative methods; • Able to inspire confidence and passion in internal and external audiences s with a range of stakeholders • Demonstrated knowledge of data collection, analysis and reporting processes • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results • Proven ability to take initiative, set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple streams of work.
