POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Manager of Public Policy and Advocacy you will be responsible for the overall delivery of assigned work projects within the Public Policy department. You will report to the Senior Vice President for Public Policy and will work collaboratively on a daily basis with other members of the Public Policy Team, which is a part of United Way Worldwide’s U.S. division.  You will be responsible for building network capacity on public policy related digital advocacy and individual engagement.  You will collaborate with United Way Worldwide staff who are responsible for network-wide individual and digital engagement. You will participate in the development of the national policy agenda, departmental action plans, work processes and systems. You may be responsible for government relations activities on assigned issues, including lobbying policy makers and coalition building as appropriate to assigned issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:

  1. Plan and execute advocacy trainings for the United Way network, with a focus on effective digital advocacy and individual engagement strategies.
  2. In partnership with Public Policy team subject matter experts, develop and manage digital advocacy/individual engagement campaigns.
  3. Conduct research and analysis on digital advocacy strategies and platforms and disseminate best practices.
  4. Plan and execute Public Policy national events.
  5. Manage system communications relating to pertinent public policy learning opportunities.
  6. Assist in maintenance of team webspace, internal and external.
  7. Develop grassroots and United Way system engagement strategies related to assigned issues.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and at least two to four years of advanced-level experience in a similar role, with 1 to 2 years experience in digital engagement. Experience deploying capacity building strategies and support selected capacity building efforts that further organizations goals.  Prior experience as a congressional staffer or in government relations is strongly preferred, as is experience working in policy for United Way at the state or local level. The role also requires: advanced public policy knowledge, skills and abilities; excellent verbal and written communication skills; an ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment; and excellent project management and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
