Major Gift Manager
The Manager of Major Gifts helps steward and build relationships with United Way’s major donors. The manager will support the Director of Major and Planned Gifts with donors in our Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
The manager will maintain and refine a moves management system for Leadership Society donors who give between $5,000 and $15,000. The manager will be responsible for managing department pledges to ensure timely follow up, administering tax credits, and annual giving.
General Responsibilities:
STRATEGY
Develop strategies that allow United Way to meet the needs of our donors. Manage and execute United Way’s donor engagement strategies and processes.
CULTIVATION
Manage a portfolio of donors, meeting with them regularly and working with them to build an understanding of their philanthropic interests and how United Way can deepen our relationship with them.
PROSPECTING
Build and execute process for identifying and engaging donors and major gift prospects at many different giving levels.
SOLICITATION
Ensure all current donors, lapsed donors and prospects are solicited appropriately. Ensure accuracy of asks, pledge cards, and other supporting materials with supervisory staff.
COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS
Represent United Way’s Leadership Giving Societies at United Way events (some nights and weekends).
Participate and support in Leadership Giving annual events..
GOAL SETTING AND REPORTING
Using research and trends, set goals for donors that fit into the overall strategic goal of the department. Provide reports as requested to senior management. Use United Way’s system (Andar) to track and maintain solicitations, gifts and appreciative responses.
COLLABORATION
Collaborate with internal departments on projects and initiatives involving major donors. Collaborate and engage with external stakeholders when needed.
Key Accountabilities:
- Create moves management plans
- Increase giving of donors who give between $5,000 and $15,000
- Preparing material in advance of donor meetings including donor bios, meeting agendas, and other materials as needed.
KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Minimum 3-4 years of experience in a major gifts role with proven results
- Bachelor’s degree required in related areas of position responsibilities
- Proficient in using and maintaining donor databases as well as Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity with demonstrated ability to exercise tact and good judgment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a new and growing department
