Associate, Community Impact

United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) is seeking a Free Tax Prep Associate to support the coordination and management of UWGC’s Free Tax Prep program including, but not limited to, volunteer recruitment, management, and training; supporting program outreach and marketing; tax site coordination, evaluation, and reporting; and provision of tax preparation services.

Key Areas of Responsibility:         

Volunteer Recruitment: Collaborate with volunteer and marketing departments on recruitment efforts including updating the website and developing the outreach campaign to general public and targeted groups (schools, universities, employers) via emails, newsletters, social media, and presentations. A specific target of securing groups to adopt or operate sites is the focus.

Volunteer Management: Assist in managing the volunteer journey including registration for orientation/training, communication, follow up, and site placement. Responsible for using the volunteer management systems, including Mobilize and Salesforce CRM, to track volunteer needs, schedules, and sign ups.

Volunteer Training: Assist in coordinating volunteer tax preparation trainings. This includes logistics, planning, and providing support during the sessions, such as securing site locations, obtaining required materials and IRS forms; securing and scheduling trainers, registering volunteers, coordinating food, supporting day of online or in-person needs. Order and distribute all training materials to volunteers and site coordinators.

Program Marketing and Outreach: In collaboration with the marketing department assist, support the creation of materials for Free Tax Prep, including: volunteer recruitment materials and program marketing of free tax sites. Lead distribution of materials to community partners and residents and provide presentations to community groups.

Tax Site Coordination and Outcomes: Assist in overseeing operations at tax sites in the region and ensuring sites adhering to IRS guidelines and protocols of operation, providing robust tax services, and securing qualified trained site coordinators and volunteers for each site. Also assist in supporting site coordinators to ensure quality service delivery, networking, and program improvement.

Program Evaluation: Assist in the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of program measures (process and outcomes). Evaluation to include administering and collecting surveys at sites, and on-going monitoring and interpreting of IRS reports.

Program Reporting: Create reports from filer surveys and IRS tax preparation reports that are shared with tax sites, volunteers, other partners, and the community.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must provide proof of current IRS certification as a tax preparer or be willing to obtain within two months of employment. An understanding of tax law and/or familiarity with tax software is helpful.

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is preferred.

  • 2-3 years of related human services experience; prior experience preparing taxes, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be computer literate with demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), required. Ability to utilize the internet for research and operate across multiple data software systems and volunteer communication and management platforms.

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Ability to listen effectively and solicit information from others.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly as part of a team.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Frequent local travel within the regional area, including evenings and weekends (particularly during the tax season January – April).

  • Reliable personal transportation required.
