Full-Time Controller

Position Overview

UWOV is seeking a full-time controller preferably with an accounting degree who is experienced with nonprofit bookkeeping and accounting principles. This is a full-time position that requires 40 hours per week. The position includes competitive pay and generous benefits.  This person should be a self-directed and innovative individual with an eye for detail and efficiency and is a strong problem-solver and solution implementer. 

This position reports to the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

The controller’s main responsibility is to ensure fiscal stewardship, financial compliance and budget integrity for the organization.  This individual delivers reliable and accurate accounting, financial reporting and the annual budget.  Ongoing duties include the full scope of accounts payable and accounts receivable (including creating invoices), creating monthly financial statements and processing payroll and all monthly reconciliations. This individual should design and prepare financial analyses, projections, trend reports and financial statements in various degrees of detail.  This individual should drive ongoing improvement by ensuring adequate internal controls and accurate reporting in accordance with UWOV policies and generally accepted accounting principles.  The controller also administers benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans. He or she will also be the main liaison with the UWOV accounting firm on the annual audit, filing of tax returns and filing of the employer 403b retirement account.




The controller candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent business experience with a non-profit organization.  Preferred candidates will have at least two years full-charge non-profit accounting experience. The preferred candidate will have some experience administering payroll and benefits and have a good working knowledge of the QuickBooks accounting software package.  Solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite is desired.  Experience with ANDAR is a plus.  The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, be a high-energy results-oriented manager and a self-starter.  The candidate should demonstrate and promote a positive and supportive work environment consistent with the organization’s culture, values and core competencies.
