Events and Experiences Associate

Responsible for supporting logistics and project management of events and experiences at United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (UWABC) using our project management tool Asana. The Events and Experiences Associate will also be an ambassador attending events (in-person/virtual) and building positive relationships with the community.


  • Support Events and Experiences Manager with planning logistics, project management, and implementation of all assigned events and experiences

  • Deliver event experiences that are embedded with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion considerations and strategies in all aspects of events

  • Create, compile and organize events surveys and reports using tools like Airtable and Google Forms, etc.

  • Monitor and order needed supplies to support events across the UWABC ecosystem

  • Solicit and process invoices from vendors and paid support staff 

  • Support logistics of employee appreciation events in partnership with Sunshine Committee

  • Support integration with other departments regarding follow-up communications, marketing and promotional materials

  • Support Community Conversations and build relationships in community 

  • Co-create programs, events, and experiences that support our Bold Community Goal

  • Support onboarding and monitoring contracted partners (e.g. caterers and teachers for Homework Diners) 

  • Maintain Airtable database of Homework Diners Community Partners 

  • Attend Community School Resource Meetings as needed 

  • Support UWABC Events and Experiences Calendar for all events and experiences across the ecosystem

  • Support transportation logistics for families to UWABC community events

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in organizing events/programming, project management or fundraising/development

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule of 20-29 hours per week including evenings and weekends as needed

  • Ability to lift 20-30 pounds

  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets insurance requirements and access to reliable transportation

  • Deep commitment to UWABC's guiding principles and ability to model those principles 

Technical Skills, Abilities and other Requirements

  • Proficient with computers and software, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Zoom

  • Ability to quickly learn and use a variety of other software platforms (e.g. Airtable, Asana)

  • Ability to balance priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame

  • Prior experience coordinating tasks and projects

  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations

  • Work effectively with people from different backgrounds and with different interests and levels

  • Ability to communicate (oral and written) in English, Spanish a plus

  • Moderate level of stress caused from tight deadlines

  • Moderate level of mental and/or visual fatigue and/or eyestrain may result from looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time

  • Occasional work in the community at events 

  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours

  • Drive a vehicle within the region

  • Moderate office noise level 

This position is non-exempt from overtime regulations. 

Hybrid work environment: a mix of office, remote, and community settings.

Supervises:  0

Hours: Part-time, approximately 20-29/week

Salary and Benefits: $18.50 to $20.66/hr plus paid vacation, sick, and bereavement leave; employer contributions to 401(k), employee assistance program and coaching and support.
