Basic Job Summary

The United Way of Acadiana, Early Head Start Center Manager (CM) is responsible for administering center activities for the Early Head Start (EHS) location in Lafayette. The CM will always ensure the delivery of high-quality services.  The CD will be responsible for ensuring EHS services are in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations for high quality early childhood education.

The Center Manager will assist the EHS Director of Programming in providing training and supervision of EHS staff members as described in the organizational chart.

All duties should be in accordance with the Early Head Start Performance Standards and State of Louisiana Licensing regulations.  The areas of responsibility are below however additional tasks may be requested by supervisors. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasionally, an employee might be asked to carry/transport heavy items up to 40lbs

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Programmatic / Operational
  2. Maintain relationships with appropriate service partners to deliver high-quality services as prescribed by the Early Head Start program requirements.
  3. As assigned supervise delivery of services with program partners and service providers.
  4. Ensure positive interaction with parents, employees, and staff of students and representatives from educational institutions, civic, governmental, faith-based and non-profit organizations that engage with EHS.
  5. Work with marketing team to implement regular outreach and program promotion, including: approved news releases, flyers, media coverage, telemarketing, correspondence, etc.
  6. Provide leadership in the recruitment and retention of capable volunteers to support the EHS program.
  7. Serve as a representative of United Way of Acadiana when collaborative efforts of others coincide with the mission and program goals of Early Head Start.
  8. Execute special projects and assignments as needed.
  9. Provide excellent customer service for volunteers, donors, and partners including relationship building with committee volunteers and their admins
  10. Creates an atmosphere that respects and embraces engagement of all people, ideas and backgrounds and aligns with United Way’s values.
  11. Resource Mobilization
  12. Assist with the recruitment, training, mentoring and retention of personnel to meet program goals and outcomes.
  13. Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist instructional staff in attaining objectives.
  14. Complete all required funder reports accurately and on time.
  15. Recruit and engage supporters to ensure the program secures required federal in-kind match.
  16. Ensure that direct site services are cost effective and managed wisely. 
  17. Community Impact Evaluation and Results
  18. Direct the successful completion of all EHS program information sessions, training classes and follow-up session logistics including scheduling, guest speakers, facilities, materials, promotion, confirmations, tracking, evaluation and follow-up. 
  19. Ensure classroom techniques and established curricula are adhered to for program success.
  20. Assist with professional development and staff training.
  21. Ensure accurate data entry into EHS monitoring programs for use in evaluation.
  22. Management and Operational
  23. Provide direction and oversight of the facilities for the site based services, reporting mechanical problems immediately and supervising that cleanliness and safety are maintained.
  24. Ensure high-quality daily operations that meet or exceed program requirements.
  25. Monitor food service delivery and transportation services for adequacy for site-based service participants.
  26. Monitor the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
  27. Monitor the availability of health services, including medical, dental, nutritional and mental are provided to children enrolled in the site based services.
  28. Ensure usage of the approved innovative instructional materials and scheduling of instructional activities that maximize learning
  29. Provide input to the EHS Leadership team to improve, and maintain a policy program manual that is consistent with the regulations and guidelines of the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, and Office of Head Start.
  30. Confer daily with personnel under your direct supervision to discuss performance and to jointly develop improvement objectives for professional growth.
  31. Ensure that all staff involved is knowledgeable about current policies and procedures.
  32. Assist personnel under your supervision in achieving their performance goals and in meeting the needs of the students.
  33. Execute special projects and assignments as needed.
  34. Attend EHS Policy Council meetings, staff meetings and training conferences as assigned.
  35. Exhibit high ethical standards and morals and embrace organizational values.

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education required; master’s degree preferred.


Minimum of five (5) years experience in early childhood education and/or family counseling services. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. The capacity to function in a fast-paced, growing organization is vital. The ideal person is flexible and positive. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse audiences is necessary.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite..


35,000-40,000 yearly depending on skills, education, and experience
