About United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley: United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley includes both Chippewa and Eau Claire counties in Wisconsin.  Eau Claire, with a metro area of 163,000, is home to the 11,000 students at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire along with 6,000 students at Chippewa Valley Technical College.  Strong schools, low crime rate, and a reasonable cost of living may be expected. The city also serves as the retail center for west central Wisconsin and the major metro area of Minneapolis/St. Paul is 90 minutes away. Position Overview:  To develop, implement and measure an organizational marketing and communications strategy to increase awareness and support for United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley, to position United Way as a community impact leader and to promote community involvement in United Way.

Compensation & Benefits: $45,000 - $50,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Work Schedule: Office hours are flexible but are to include a minimum of 40 hours per week of work, not including lunches and breaks. There are rare cases where early morning, evening and weekend work is necessary.

United Way Commitment: Maintain a current understanding of and ability to articulate to the community UWGCV’s community impact model, focus activities, and results.  Participate in appropriate internal and external committees in support of UWGCV’s community impact work. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing / Graphic Design:

  • Research, then develop and implement a strategic, year-round, market-driven Communications / Marketing Plan (including media relations, public relations, social media, traditional/online advertising, and collateral development) for United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley
  • Develop, design, write and produce all printed and digital materials (i.e. monthly newsletter, annual report, campaign materials, etc.), including the graphic design of marketing materials from scratch
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Marketing Committee to enhance awareness and recognition of United Way’s brand.  Assure that messages are communicated effectively to the community through key United Way constituents (volunteers, agencies, staff, etc.) and communication vehicles (such as printed materials, media, social network, web, advertising, video, and PSAs.)  
  • Develop digital media/social media strategy and implement long-range plan of involvement including measurement standards indicating the impact of the work
  • Provide regular news releases to local media
  • Brand development and training of staff and volunteers to ensure alignment with the guidelines established by United Way Worldwide
  • Write articles for submission to local publications and company newsletters
  • Create an engagement plan for volunteers and donors to receive updates, surveys, newsletters, etc.

Media/Public Relations:

  • Build solid relationships and maintain current contacts for all key media personnel at print publications, radio, and television stations in the region we serve
  • Establish and strengthen United Way’s relationship with corporate in-house communicators in order to communicate community impact and encourage volunteer engagement with United Way.
  • Provide marketing assistance and support for ongoing, positive working relationships with program partners.  Develop co-marketing messages
  • Ensure proper documents, records and photos are kept as a means of preserving the history of United Way
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, direct relevant and timely communications both internally and externally as needed during crisis situations

Campaign Communications:

  • Assure the continuity of top-level volunteer direction for the Marketing Committee through cultivation, recruitment and motivation 
  • Develop storyboard and appropriate collateral for annual campaign messaging. 
  • Develop annual campaign video

Community Impact Communications:

  • Collaborate with community impact staff and program partners to effectively develop an impact narrative for UWGCV
  • Plan and execute a marketing plan to highlight UWGCV impact narrative with the assistance of program partners and community impact staff

Special Events (in collaboration with UWGCV staff):

  • Develop, plan and implement, and recruit volunteers for all United Way special events (specifically Day of Caring), donor, and volunteer recognition events utilizing research-based information to determine the effectiveness of each event
  • Develop, plan and implement campaign kick-off and year-end thank you event with assistance of Committee – recruit all volunteers needed for events

Education & Experience

  • Education and/or training in marketing, graphic design, or public relations strongly preferred
  • Graphic design experience, specifically Adobe Creative Suite, strongly preferred
  • Content writing experience preferred

Skills

  • A firm mastery of time management and organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Digital marketing strategies and platforms
  • Experience crafting and implementing brand strategy
  • Budget management
  • Website development
  • Photography
  • Print production and technical aspects of digital marketing.
