Director of Marketing & Communications

POSITION TITLE: Director of Marketing and Communications
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time, Exempt
UNIT ORGANIZATION: Marketing
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
SALARY: $55,000-$70,000

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Director of Marketing and Communications will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in managing United Way of Northwest Vermont's (UWNWVT) marketing and communications programs in alignment with the organization's mission and vision. Create and implement organizational communications, ensuring a consistent brand experience. Plan and execute effective marketing and strategic communications initiatives and projects that build the brand, strengthen relationships with key constituencies and drive revenue generation.

Function as an effective brand steward, providing peer-to-peer leadership, training, and support to help all staff consistently deliver the ideal messaging. Oversee digital marketing and communications strategy and tactics. Serve as the organization's lead media contact, handling both short- and long-term PR activities.

Support United Way's commitment to community engagement by facilitating communication and relationship-building with United Way staff, volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and individuals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and Communications Strategy Development

  • Work closely with the CEO in developing and directing the implementation of long- andshort-range plans to meet the organization's marketing and communications goals
  • Develop an annual marketing and communications tactical plan, including publicrelations, business development, and digital marketing
  • Work closely with Community Impact staff to understand United Way's "product" in orderto present clear information to the community (media, donors, volunteers, staff, etc.)
  • Develop and conduct ongoing research to support the planning and development oforganization marketing strategy and tactics
  • Serve as liaison with internal and external customers for messaging/theme materialsand key communication strategy development
  • In partnership with the CEO, oversee the development and maintenance of a favorablepublic and media relations environment

Implementation and Operations

  • In partnership with Community Impact staff oversee the development of project and grant-specific communications materials, including editing, web design, and templates
  • Create content, develop stories and design marketing collateral for use in fundraising both with individuals and in workplace campaigns
  • Work with other internal departments to integrate marketing and communications strategie
  • Provide talking points for staff and volunteers that reflect feedback from donor research and current-year business plans and clearly support the mission. Provide coaching on presenting the message as needed. Stay current with all available market research and advise Donor Relations on community issues, donor trends, and any other factors that may influence the effective positioning of the organization
  • Develop and manage annual budget, project budgets & forecasts for the organization's marketing and communication projects and monitor and control expenses to meet those forecast
  • Maintain and evolve an engaging and interactive digital marketing, social media,and web experience for intended audiences

SUPERVISION:

No current direct supervisory duty. The intention is to hire staff that will report to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of marketing and communications experience are required. Marketing,communications, public relations, journalism or similar experience are applicable to thisrole
  • Supervisory, management, and nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to create effectivecopy and inspiring stories
  • Expert in MS Office products, proficiency in Adobe Suite, CRM database knowledge is aplus
