Welcome to an opportunity that interfaces with key players in our 4-county community.  United Way of the Cape Fear provides a channel for this new leader to have daily interactions with non-profit, political, educational, legal and key business leaders from Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender Counties.

Reports to: President/CEO

Purpose of Position: 

To create, manage and implement marketing and communications strategies that help to attain annual organizational goals.  To provide ongoing leadership and supervisory direction to key projects necessary to ensure successful execution of the strategic plan.  To develop marketing strategies that help to generate revenue and retain and grow institutional support while meeting the mission of United Way of the Cape Fear Area. To build relationships and partnerships across the UWCFA service area while working cross-functionally with all staff and board to support United Way as a whole. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve UWCFA marketing goals and objectives

• Provide guidance, strategic planning, customized marketing materials and support to Resource Development  and Community Impact Teams with regard to organizations objectives

• Provide direction to staff regarding key communication materials and messaging with an emphasis on building and enhancing relationships throughout the region

• Work closely with Community Impact and Investment Teams to drive the Community Impact agenda

• Manage and supervise website and social media 

• Coordinate all advertising and public relations efforts including but not limited to print, radio, SNM Pro Bono Program

• Develop yearly collateral materials:  annual reports, booklets, campaign materials, flyers, invitations, ads, posters, etc.

• Coordinate and manage the UWCFA Marketing Committee 

• Manage and supervise event planning 

• Manage media contracts

• Develop and maintain department budget

• Assist CEO and board of directors as requested


• United Way experience preferred:  energy, enthusiasm and passion for the mission are a must

• Experience in marketing, design and communications required

• Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making required 

• Strong design, exceptional verbal, written and customer service communications skills required

• Flexibility with work schedules is necessary – some evenings and weekend events

• Proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative is required

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and proficiency in multi-tasking is critical

• Experience working both independently and within a team required

• Digital marketing experience required

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, graphic design, business communications or related field required
