POSITION SUMMARY 

Creates and oversees United Way Worldwide’s (UWW) enterprise-wide communications strategy and plan targeting the global United Way Network. The strategy and plan will be executed throughout the organization and target key audiences including local United Ways, UWW staff, partners, board members, and volunteers. This position has overall responsibility for the innovation and development of a communications architecture (channels/means) to best communicate with stakeholders throughout the Network. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION 

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level: 

  • Responsible for synthesizing organizational goals and developing integrated plans to drive stakeholder adoption of UW's vision, strategies, programs and resources.  

  • Oversee the development and implementation of integrated communications plans to support the launch/activation of key UWW programs, events and/or initiatives to the global UWW Network.  

  • Develop, manage and measure protocols and procedures to maximize efficiencies, impact and alignment of Network communications efforts.  

  • Create and manage the content strategy to elevate organizational priorities, resources and impact to the Network audience.   

  • Provide training, support, and counsel to UWW staff charged with communications responsibilities in their functional areas. 

  • Develop strategic approach (including editorial oversight) to leverage key UWW channels (i.e., newsletters, United Way Online, My Day and Workplace) to build Network knowledge and foster engagement.  

  • Responsible for setting and measuring performance metrics to ensure the Network communications strategy is meeting/exceeding goals/objectives. 

  • Manage communications efforts to support UWW’s disaster relief work.  

  • Successfully partner with organizational stakeholders to ensure alignment with the organization’s communications strategies/messages. Build and nurture strong professional relationships with colleagues within the Network and UWW. 

  • Create/coordinate communications from the cross-functional MC team about brand/marketing/messaging to the worldwide network.  

  • Support the execution of UWW staff events including town halls.  

  • Demonstrate proven leadership skills to instill stakeholder confidence in the role and value of strategic communications. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience. 

  • A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in a similar role. 

  • Three years of experience in a leadership role. 

  • Candidates will have demonstrated experience translating overarching organizational goals into effective communications strategies. 

  • Proven track record of developing broad strategic communications plans targeting multiple audiences, as well as success defining and achieving communications metrics/goals. 

  • Must be a solutions-oriented, strategic thinker and communicator. 

  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills are mandatory. 

  • Must be a strong writer/editor, and an effective communications consultant.  

  • Ideal candidate will have international and US communications experience. 

  • Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience. 

  • Demonstrate proven leadership skills to instill stakeholder confidence in the role and value of strategic communications. 

  • Fluency in more than one language is a plus.
