Basic Job Summary
The role of the Director is to lead and oversee the development programs in support of United Way’s annual campaign, as well as raise significant non-recurring gifts outside of the annual campaign including but not limited to individual giving and corporate giving. Alongside the executive leadership, this leadership role is responsible for developing the strategy for these programs, as well as developing and monitoring the implementation plans for these strategies. 

This position will work with the UWA teams to manage the pipeline of donors and ensure all donors feel special and connected to the organization while strengthening relationships to inspire more giving and movement up the pipeline. 

This position must be able to promote the goals of United Way of Acadiana, articulate the mission and strategic priorities, and effectively present a case for support. This person will have experience leveraging direct marketing tactics to acquire, cultivate and steward mid-level donors. They will utilize traditional and innovative tactics to upgrade giving, deepen donor commitment, and expand relationships. This person will collaborate with others on the UWA team to increase the overall pipeline portfolio annually.

Resource Development Team Leadership 

  • The Director is a key member of the Development Department contributing to a year-round/ multiyear strategic plan designed to deliver consistent growth in annual gifts. 
  • The Director, in partnership with UWA Executive Leadership develops, implements, and sustains an effective stewardship model to support the building of lasting relationships between United Way and those that support it. 
  • The Director acts as a representative for United Way with key external constituents (Workplace Campaigns, Sr. Executives, Board Members, city leaders and donors) 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop successful strategies to grow membership in the Individual and Corporate Giving Circles 
  • Manage and Planning of Annual Workplace Campaign
  • Implement strategies to achieve organizational objectives and monitor for effectiveness and ensure accuracy in reporting. 
  • Oversee donor care & stewardship, ensuring donors receive high-quality and timely donor care via their preferred channel. 
  • Ensure development volunteers are recruited, matched, and developed for appropriate roles. Model and provide ‘best in class’ experiences for assigned volunteers. 
  • Personally manage, grow, and develop the donor portfolio. 
  • Provide support in the development of marketing and communications collateral materials related to giving campaigns. 
  • Manage departmental expenses within budget, while ensuring appropriate resources and capacity to deliver on goals. 
  • Identify new initiatives to grow the mid-level giving program and spearhead efforts to bring plans to fruition. 
  • Strategize and execute direct marketing campaigns to help achieve the program's strategic and revenue goals. Work with outside vendors on the execution of direct response campaigns (from strategy, audience logic and segmentation, data output, creative development, and production), ensuring jobs go out on time and on budget. 
  • Work across teams to identify and resolve data issues and maintain good data hygiene. 
  • Develop and execute donor engagement and cultivation calendar including organizing special calls, events or invitations for audiences as needed. 
  • Input into the development of the budget and track expenses and work with the executive leadership to ensure revenue goals are met. 
  • Other job-related duties as assigned. 

Experience 

  • Experience managing multiple projects with varying deadlines. 
  • Customer service or donor care experience is preferred. Must be able to build strong rapport with donors regardless of giving level or satisfaction with the organization. 
  • Budget and reporting experience a plus. 
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience managing relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff. 
  • Previous non-profit experience preferred.

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field preferred. Minimum seven years' experience working in direct marketing, philanthropy, or development. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. 

Requirements Before Hire   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study.   
  • Proof and maintenance of a valid driver’s license  
  • Proof and maintenance of Vehicle Insurance and reliable transportation   
  • Produce a current physical.   
  • Must pass a Louisiana State Police Criminal Background Check.  

Salary: TBD
