Director of Finance

The Director of Finance oversees company general ledger, produces financial reports for all internal and external financial statement users and supervises the day to day operations of the financial reporting and accounting functions for the organization.  Manages budget oversight and actual expenses for the operating fund and grant programs. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Finance and is responsible for the accounting team.


  • Manage accounting staff on accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and rules for non-profits
  • Direct annual audit and 990 processes, serving as the principal liaison to the external auditor
  • Supervise grants administration, accounting and budgeting
  • Provide advice and counsel regarding financial issues and controls to the President and Senior Vice President of Finance
  • Oversees organization general ledger and budget management functions, including preparation of the annual budget
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for review, (including explanations for variance analysis) and prepares cash flow analysis
  • Provide financial reports and analysis to the President & CEO, Senior Management, volunteer Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Maintain compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and tax laws
  • Develops procedures and systems for use in ensuring financial control and availability of data for analysis
  • Administers endowment funds and investment portfolio
  • Assist, as assigned by management, with the organization’s disaster response efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Finance

  • Accounting or related degree required
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • MIP & ADP experience a plus
  • Minimum of five years of progressive financial management and supervisory experience
  • Computer literate and ability to learn accounting software and database     

 Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using arms, hands, wrists and fingers, and lifting up to 25 lbs.  Further details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
