Director of Engagement & Special Events

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Strategize, develop and manage a multi-faceted community engagement plan to inform, involve and drive action among UWSK key audiences including donors, volunteers, partners, community leaders and other strategic audience segments.  Lead and direct the execution of signature fundraising and volunteer events. Manage volunteer training events for the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

  1. Prepares master plan with all objectives as well as timeframe for every event; incorporates main organizational deadlines; and executes timely adjustments in programs as required to attain stated goals.
  2. Manages event design and oversees the logistics planning and execution of all flagship revenue generating events. Provides advice and guidance to other events that support United Way’s mission.
  3. Lead all elements of the organization’s key fundraising event.  Includes management of volunteer committee, securing donated auction items and cash sponsorships, and planning/implementing the actual event.
  4. Responsible for preparing event budgets; tracking and reconciling budgets and following cost control measures to ensure that events executed within budget.
  5. Develop overall plans, including volunteer recruitment & management, for key volunteer events.
  6. Oversees communications with staff and volunteers pertaining to key volunteer/special events.
  7. Provides leadership needed to execute volunteer/special events – includes liaising with teammates to produce event promotional collaterals, communications assets, rsvp lists, media, scriptwriting, reports, etc. 
  8. Plan and execute volunteer training activity.
  9. Direct the Live United Awards, the organization’s principal recognition event and annual meeting, including location management, awards processing, overall program development, materials production, etc.
  10. Provide support to the annual fundraising campaign and fund distribution processes as needed including account management.
