Director, Corporate Social Responsibility

Reports to: Chief Development and Marketing Officer

Position Overview:  The Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, reports to the Chief Development and Marketing Officer and serves a critical role as a cross-departmental leader, ensuring internal and external stakeholder needs are aligned, while maximizing corporate financial support and community impact. This role will focus on the development, implementation, and execution of strategic partnership plans including, but not limited to, employee volunteerism, professional development, and individual/corporate giving. Constant evaluation is also critical in this role. This role may also have the support of a Corporate Engagement associate in partnership with the Director, Corporate Engagement.  

Primary Responsibilities:

Cross-Departmental Leadership – 30%

  • Work directly with Volunteerism and Community Impact teams to identify nonprofit partner needs and create corresponding volunteer opportunities for corporate partners and individual employees.
  • Serve as project manager of a cross-functional team focused on strategic planning and implementation of a Corporate Volunteerism Equity Learning Journey
  • In partnership with the Individual Giving team & Director, Corporate Engagement, build strategies to support the growth of partner affinity groups and UWNYC affinity networks (including Development cabinets) with a focus on D&I and UWNYC’s Campaign for Equity.
    • Ensure all groups are given the tools that they need to support UWNYC’s mission.
  • Serve as the Resource Development POD liaison for one of the UWNYC Programmatic Pillars to ensure the continued development of impact products, ongoing learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the development of communication strategies and processes aimed at sharing community impact stories, statistics, etc. with corporate and individual donors.
    • Support Director, Corporate Engagement in the development of campaign assets, talking points, and other external-facing materials.

Strategic Partnership Management – 40%

  • Support the creation and management of customized corporate partnerships focusing on giving, employee engagement/professional development, and volunteerism tailored to the corporate partner’s values, and core strengths, as well as the needs of the community.
  • Work with the Strategic Initiatives team to maximize opportunities to obtain and renew corporate foundation support.
  • In partnership with the Director, Corporate Engagement, support the recruitment, management, and retainment of strategic new business accounts.
  • Increase overall corporate revenue through strategic partnerships and year-round engagement.

Research & Development – 30%

  • In partnership with the Sr. Director, Culture and Organizational Development, redefine and redevelop (Diagnose, Design, and Deploy) the overall CSR framework for external corporate partners based on key trends and stakeholder needs.
    • Establish and constantly reevaluate (Drive) KPIs for the updated CSR framework
  • Strategize and research innovative ways to partner and grow corporate financial support & engagement through programmatic investments, in-kind contributions, program-specific giving campaigns, and other collaborative efforts.
  • Research viability of creation of a CSR council consisting of UWNYC partners

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience holding progressively responsible positions in nonprofit development, foundation giving, corporate philanthropy, or managing senior-level business-to-business sales accounts
  • Astute listener and able to understand, reflect, and incorporate what clients’ and peers’ needs and interests are
  • Ability to bring together various stakeholders toward a common goal
  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Effective at engaging with top-level corporate executives
  • Deep understanding of the corporate landscape and next-generation workforce of New York City
  • Adept at translating program partnerships and outcomes in order to communicate UWNYC’s value in the community and build a case for member support
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
  • Presence and confidence to project credibility to donors and peers
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and quickly “change gears” as needed
  • Familiarity with database and CRM tools
  • A passion for UWNYC’s mission, vision, and accomplishments
  • This is a visionary role and will require constant evaluation and cross-department communication and collaboration.
