Type of Employment: Part-time Limited Term (24 months), Flexible, 10-15 hours per week

Position Overview: The Digital Navigator Coordinator is responsible for providing individualized or small group assistance to community members in need of affordable home internet service, affordable internet-capable devices, and/or additional resources in digital skills training or technical support in order to become effective home internet users. The Digital Navigator Coordinator also coordinates outreach and engagement events and conducts research to identify key barriers to internet adoption in the Chippewa Valley. All outreach and assistance is provided primarily by in-person interactions and phone calls but may also include email, text, video chat, and other communication methods. The Digital Navigator reports to the Community Impact Director - Digital Equity. The position is limited in term to 24 months with the possibility of extension. 

Compensation & Benefits: $18/hour

Work Schedule: Hybrid position with some in-person responsibilities necessary to fulfill job duties. Work hours are flexible but are to include a minimum of 10-15 hours per week of work, not including lunches and breaks. Includes some early morning, evening and weekend work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Connect community members (clients) to a variety of internet resources including any or all of the following: 
    • Discuss with each client their home internet access or need for home internet access, technology experiences and devices
    • Advise clients about free or affordable home internet service options for which they may qualify, assist clients to apply for services they choose, and support their efforts to secure service 
    • If necessary, advise clients about sources of affordable computers or other internet connected devices for which they may qualify, and support their efforts to acquire appropriate device and advise where they can get help for repair 
    • Connect clients to other necessary resources to boost their internet usage such as digital skills training programs 
    • Track each client’s progress and types of requests, keep accurate and timely records, and report outcomes as required
  • Conduct research to identify key barriers to internet adoption in the Chippewa Valley and create solutions. 
  • Coordinate and participate in United Way Digital Equity Outreach Activities: 
    • Plan and attend local community events to share information about United Way’s Digital Equity Program
    • Collaborate with local community institutions to provide sufficient outreach of the Digital Equity Program
    • Track, replenish, and create marketing materials to be used at community institutions as necessary
  • Coordinate and participate in United Way Digital Equity Enrollment Activities: 
    • Plan, develop, and execute Digital Equity Enrollment Events
    • Provide on-site assistance with affordable internet applications (i.e., Affordable Connectivity Program and Lifeline Program) and find internet service provider options for households. 
    • Connect community members (clients) to resources that may support their internet usage
    • Maintain high level of communication, including the ability to establish trust with clients of varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Attend UWGCV weekly staff meetings as needed
  • Perform basic administrative duties including but not limited to organizing electronic and physical files
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience working with groups and organizations in a community environment
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Proficiency using computers, including Office365, the Internet, and databases
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong relationship and team-building skills
  • Able to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Physical exertion, including bending, standing and walking. Must be able to move or carry objects
  • Must be able to lift approximately 25 pounds occasionally
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, reliable transportation
