The Ogden Food Council is a volunteer group that aims to serve as a public forum for discussing food issues, fostering coordination between different sectors of the food system, evaluating and influencing policies, as well as supporting programs and services that address local needs. This includes identifying opportunities for: 

  • Improving access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food for all Ogden residents 

  • Strengthening Ogden’s food economy by supporting local farmers, food workers, and food entrepreneurs 

The Council is made up of a diverse group of individuals who represent all sectors of the food system, including but not limited to production, processing, distribution, retail, consumption, access, and nutrition.

Position Overview

The Corner Store Organizer connects with corner store owners and managers to develop a relationship of trust to be able to ask questions about the challenges facing stores, learn about how corner stores operate in regards to nutritious and culturally relevant options, and connect corner stores to one another. 

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with corner store managers and owners

  • Determine the challenges in obtaining, stocking, and selling nutritional and culturally appropriate foods

  • Determine barriers to sustaining healthy food initiatives in corner stores

  • Promote communication and coordination between corner stores

  • Share information related to the supply chain with an investigating researcher

  • Collaborate with the Community Research Analyst for evaluation

  • Attend Corner Store Workgroup and Ogden Food Council meetings, as needed

  • Communicate with backbone staff (Network Facilitator and Community Research Analyst), as needed 

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 18+ years of age

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Self-motivated

  • Able to work independently with little supervision

  • Comfortable approaching strangers and building relationships

  • Access to reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ogden resident

  • 1 year of work or volunteer experience 

  • Experience with community outreach and diverse populations

Position Details

Hours: Part-time, 10 hours/week

Wage: $20-22/hour based on experience and qualifications

Cell Phone Stipend: $30/month

**This is a grant-funded, contract position for one year (ending July 31, 2023)
