United Way’s mission is to be Brevard’s leader in mobilizing the caring power of our community.  So, what exactly does it mean?  Simply put, it means that United Way will use its resources – financial and leadership – to bring people together to make a measurable impact on needs in our community.  

Mobilizing the caring power of our community means many things at our United Way.  It means coordination of a single fundraising campaign on behalf of many local health and human service programs at non-profit agencies throughout Brevard County; strategically distributing funds to local programs based on the potential return on investment and quantifiable results; holding agencies accountable for funding through program evaluation and annual monitoring for compliance; convening partners to proactively identify issues for organizational focus and implementing solutions to emerging needs in our community; putting stakes in the ground around areas of emphasis on which we are in a position to “move the dial” and make measurable impact to the benefit of our community; and  engaging supporters in our work.  The goal is to change lives for the better.

Your United Way is local, autonomous and run by volunteers:
A locally elected, volunteer Board of Directors administers the activities of each United Way.  There are more than 1,200 local United Ways in the United States.  Each local Board is completely autonomous, answerable only to the residents of its specific community.  

United Way of Brevard’s Board sets policy and provides leadership unique to our community needs and circumstances.  The Board is composed of 52 volunteer members representing our community’s diverse makeup – large companies, financial institutions, higher education, faith and community based organizations, local government, and private industry. Our Executive Committee provides expertise and counsel to United Way of Brevard’s president and leadership team, helping to set priorities and future direction for the organization.

Relationship with United Way Worldwide:
Many United Ways work in concert with United Way Worldwide, an association providing a system through which local organizations can act in unison on major issues affecting health and human services nationally.  United Way Worldwide acts as a resource, a trade association if you will.  Membership provides annual training opportunities, large scale advertising campaigns and assistance with market research and planning.  United Way of Brevard has chosen to voluntarily associate with them.

Relationship with United Way of Florida:
United Way of Brevard has also opted to voluntarily associate with a statewide group – United Way of Florida.  Through advocacy efforts, its staff and volunteers present the views of the human service community to the Executive and Legislative Branches of the Florida State Government.
 

1.    Performs a wide range of administrative and secretarial duties; transcribes recordings; composes, edits and proofreads correspondence to ensure typographical accuracy for supervisor’s signature; sets up and maintains files; makes travel arrangements and reservations; attends meetings and prepares and distributes meeting minutes.
2.    Schedules appointments and/or tasks as necessary; maintains calendars as needed; reminds staff of scheduled appointments and meetings; assembles documents, reports or other information as required for meeting preparation; ensures appointment or meeting participants are informed of date and time; explains requirements and instructions to others as directed for meeting preparation.  
3.    Answers telephones and performs related duties as needed; determines priorities of inquiries and problems received from both internal and external sources; takes messages or provides answers and information; refers problems to appropriate individuals; ensures answers or information is received by inquiring party. 
4.    Assists in the maintenance of ANDAR Database; datamines information for specific staff needs. 
5.    Serves as a liaison between the staff and volunteers, through phone calls, memos and other methods to ensure timely, efficient communications to all parties.
6.    Responsible for maintaining regular and electronic mailing and distribution lists associated with the organization’s functions and for assisting with related mailings.   
7.    Provides support in the areas of report development, event planning and maintenance and coordination of supplies and materials.   
8.    Coordinates committee meetings, socials, and volunteer activities and provides support as needed.
9.    Provides support for pledge card data entry and serves as dual control for campaign funds processing as needed. 
10.    Performs other related duties as assigned by the VP, Resource Development or the President.
